9 of the most comfortable interiors in Mediterranean style: ReRooms choice

Coastal translates as “coastal, coastal.” This style is different from the traditional nautical style. There are no bright colors in it, the color scheme is gentle, moderate, light. The blue, white and red contrasts of the nautical style give way to pastel shades of beige, sand, turquoise, green and blue. For dynamics, you can add several elements in yellow, orange or dark blue.

Coastal style interiors give the impression that they have been faded by the sun and frayed by the wind.

Coastal style is primarily suitable for country houses, but recently it has become popular in city apartments. How to bring the spirit of the sea into your home?

Features of a classic Mediterranean interior

  1. Warm light, sea, earth tones.
  2. It is preferable to use natural and environmentally friendly materials: ceramics, wood, cotton, stone, wrought iron, glass.
  3. Matte surfaces.
  4. High ceilings, spacious rooms.
  5. Functionality, simplicity of accessories and decorations.
  6. Mosaic finishing made from crushed ceramic or glass tiles.
  7. Large table in the dining area (wooden or with a natural stone top).

In addition, there are several trends in the Mediterranean style. Thus, Greek is distinguished by a white and blue color scheme of the interior, Italian is distinguished by restraint and neutrality of shades, rough shapes and luxurious furniture. And if you like bright colors, focus on Spanish interiors, which may contain bright colors like red or yellow, bright ornaments, and massive wooden furniture.

And now we propose to consider nine interiors that clearly demonstrate the features of the Mediterranean style.

Distinctive features

The marine style is easily recognizable; it has a number of features directly associated with the surface of the water and marine fauna.

  • Basic colors of marine style: white and shades of blue;
  • Use of textiles made from natural materials;
  • An abundance of thematic decorative elements;
  • Furniture in the interior of simple shapes with straight lines made of natural materials: wood, rattan.

Design project for three rubles in Moscow with a nursery

ReRooms designers received an order to complete a design project for a three-room apartment in Moscow in a Mediterranean style. The customer’s special wishes concerned a children’s room: the family has two school-age children, and it was necessary to create comfortable conditions for their leisure and learning.

The experts decided to take as a basis a white and blue color scheme with dominant white and turquoise, with gray accents. In this apartment, the living room is combined with the kitchen, which is common in the Mediterranean style. Therefore, these zones are decorated in the same color scheme, with the exception of the kitchen apron, finished with light blue tiles. Please note that the shelving and furniture are made of natural wood - matching the laminate on the floor. Clear references to the Mediterranean style have curtains that add color to the interior.

A more neutral color scheme was chosen for the children's room - light gray shades predominate in the interior. The furniture is also wooden. A floor mat with multi-colored stripes adds brightness and expressiveness to the interior - a traditional solution for the Mediterranean style.

And the bedroom received a soft turquoise color scheme - the same shade is reflected in the textiles. Pay attention to the wall at the head of the bed: it is decorated with an abstract print with simple geometry and smooth lines.

The apartment has a shared bathroom. The interior is dominated by snow-white tiles, accents are placed using black and white tiles. A striking detail is the image of a sailboat cutting through the waves.

Open veranda

In order to complete the creation of a cozy and heavenly atmosphere of a country house, you need to think about building an open veranda, where you can hide from the scorching sun and pouring rain while enjoying the beautiful scenery. On the terrace (veranda) it is important to arrange an open fireplace (barbecue or grill) and a large table where you can gather with family or friends, enjoying the beauty of the sea, sunset and the taste of food from the fire.

Small sofas and couches, comfortable armchairs and wicker furniture will help create a cozy atmosphere on the veranda. An alternative solution is rattan furniture, for the weaving of which vines are used that can withstand enormous loads, both mechanical and thermal. The main advantage of rattan is that, despite its strength, the material is lightweight, which allows even children to rearrange it. For comfortable use, the furniture is not covered with fabric, but is supplemented with pillows.

Bright three-ruble note in Moscow with themed prints covering the entire wall

Again our own design project ReRooms, again Mediterranean style. The color scheme of the interiors of this apartment combines dazzling white, blue and beige-sand colors. And to place bright accents, the designers used bright purple and fuchsia.

The dominant color in the kitchen is blue; the accent wall and backsplash are tiled to resemble white brick, which is typical for this interior design trend. Pay attention to the countertop on the kitchen set: it imitates marble. Bright black and white curtains with a simple pattern highlight the overall style of the interior.

This apartment has a very cozy, Mediterranean-warm children's room. It is decorated in beige and sand tones with an animalistic image covering the entire accent wall. Living plants, which are very desirable in such interiors, refresh the color scheme.

The dominant color in the parents' bedroom is white. Look at this incredibly bright and rich print on the wall at the head of the bed!

As for the bathroom and toilet, they are decorated in a modern style, but at the same time retain the Mediterranean warm color scheme.

Fabrics

Natural materials are now popular in the interior of a house by the sea. You can use wood (new or aged), flowers, fruits (can also be artificial), and climbing plants like ivy in interior design. Other beautiful plants can also be used. But they must be large. Otherwise the house will not look very nice. The highlight of a house by the sea can be the presence of antique furniture. Although such furniture does not look very rich, it adds a special charm to the interior. Old furniture can be bought ready-made. You can also artificially age furniture that is already in the house.

Mediterranean lightness in a Moscow two-room apartment

Again, ReRooms’ own project: design of a two-room apartment in the Moscow residential complex “Aalto”. When creating this design project, our designers also abandoned pretentious accessories and extravagant decor, concentrating on lightness in the interior.

The apartment has a kitchen-dining room with access to a balcony; the balcony itself has a glass facade. There are also large windows in the bedroom and living room, making the apartment look very bright and cozy.

The walls in the bedroom are decorated with soft blue wallpaper with a wide stripe print - this allows you to visually raise the ceiling.

The living room is decorated in gray and turquoise colors. The central elements of the interior were a black and white carpet with an ethnic pattern and an exotic floor lamp.

And another project from the designers of ReRooms: this time a one-room apartment with an area of 43 meters in Moscow. The interior is decorated in white and blue tones, and the stylistic direction is emphasized by bright marine-themed details.

From the entrance to the apartment the snow-white kitchen-dining room opens to the eye. A bright blue curtain on the window facing the balcony and natural wood parquet add color to the interior. Pay attention to interesting design solutions:

  • Ceramic tiles with Mediterranean-style patterns were used as flooring in the area with the kitchen unit - it visually separates the work area from the dining area, and is much easier to clean from dirt that is inevitable during the cooking process;
  • the central chandelier is designed in a Mediterranean style and decorated with ropes;
  • there are wooden beams on the ceiling;
  • To more clearly separate the kitchen and hallway, the designers suggested using a partition made of wooden blocks.

The bathroom in our case is combined with a toilet; its interior continues the Mediterranean theme: blue and white colors, paintings and tiles with a marine theme, and a wooden vanity unit. Beautiful and not overloaded with details.

The bedroom-living room is also designed in snow-white tones with blue accents. Pay attention to the laconic solutions with ropes.

Reducing the bathroom, increasing living space

Almost always an apartment by the sea is small in size. Studios up to 25 square meters are the most popular product on the housing market. Most often they are purchased for vacation, rental or temporary residence.

In that case, attention, question. Why do you need a big bathroom? That's right, there's no need!

We reduce the size of the bathroom to the maximum. Here are some tips on how to do this:

  • choose a shower cabin rather than a bathtub;
  • choose a small compact washbasin with a built-in cabinet - we save space and create storage space;
  • choose the most compact narrow and small-sized washing machine;
  • if necessary, the washing machine can even be placed under the washbasin, as we did in one of the apartments.

Washing machine under the bathroom sink
The purpose of all this is to maximize the small living space as much as possible. For what? To properly, conveniently and functionally zone it!

Whatever one may say, it is in the living space that you will spend more time than in the bathroom. It is by the appearance of the living space that people will judge your apartment when looking at the photo (if you plan to rent it out).

Therefore, it is in favor of the convenience of living space that we make a choice, and not in favor of a large bathroom.
