The PAX wardrobe system, like their METHOD kitchens, allows you to assemble furniture like a designer set. But is it so universal and will it solve your storage problems? I will share with you my personal purchasing experience, and also show you what the cabinet looks like in a real interior.
Comfortable hallway in IKEA style
Which furniture should you choose from the set presented above for your home? I suggest starting from the size of the room, its capabilities, the number of family members and the amount of clothes and shoes that need to be stored there.
Regardless of the size and shape of the room, it is necessary to allocate space for:
- seasonal clothing (jackets, coats, fur coats and other outerwear that you wear every day in a given season);
- the shoes you are currently wearing;
- hats;
- bags, glasses, umbrellas and other accessories.
A bench or banquette on which you can sit to tie your shoelaces or place your bag; mirror; additional organizers for storing gloves, umbrellas and other small items - things are very useful, but they will not fit in every case due to the size of the room.
Depending on the area and shape of the corridor, let's see what arrangement options there may be.
Small or very narrow hallway
A hallway in a small apartment will solve many storage problems, even for a large family, if you plan it correctly in advance. To do this, you need to draw a room design on a sheet of paper with the exact parameters of width and length, marking doors, switches, sockets and other elements. Decide what things you will store in the hallway. Based on this, select the required set of furniture from the catalog and draw it on the drawing to make sure that everything fits in size.
The best solution for small hallways is “2 in 1” or even “3 in 1” furniture.

A full-sized closet will not always fit in a small hallway. Some clothes and shoes that are not suitable for the season can be stored in another room, and in the hallway you can install a narrow one-door wardrobe or completely abandon it, installing only a hanger.
Sliding wardrobe or hinged wardrobe? The first saves space, and the second is easier to care for (dust accumulates in the grooves below in the wardrobe).
Unfortunately, at IKEA it is impossible to make a custom-made wardrobe for the individual dimensions of the room, but you can design furniture in the designer by choosing one of the standard frames with a width of 50 cm, 100 cm, 150 cm or 200 cm. In the design program you can choose from several options for facades (including making a mirrored door). The advantage of designing closets is also the ability to think through internal storage, choosing the right number of shelves for shoes, hooks or crossbars with hangers for clothes.

If a mirror is necessary, you can install it above a shoe rack, chest of drawers, or on a closet door or front door.
Shoes can fit even in a small and narrow corridor. Their depth is only 18-20 cm.

Large hallway
In a spacious room there will be no problems with organizing storage. But there is the problem of emptiness that needs to be filled in order for the space to be harmonious and cozy. Choosing furniture from IKEA allows you to cope with this task.
Let's see how you can wisely manage the large area of the front hall.
- Use large furniture.
Square meters allow you to design a large and spacious closet with several sections for storing shoes, clothes, bags, gloves, etc. Instead of a miniature, compact ottoman, use a sofa or armchairs.
- Complete the decor with chests of drawers and shoe racks.
- In a large hallway you can afford a full-length mirror in a three-dimensional frame.
- The hall can be supplemented with paintings and house plants in large flower pots so that the atmosphere does not seem empty and uncomfortable.

Assembly instructions
If you have at least minimal skills in working with a screwdriver, and the instructions do not seem like a bunch of incomprehensible words and pictures, then you can safely assemble it yourself. But not alone. Call a friend for help: sliding doors with glass are especially heavy and it is very difficult to install them alone. My husband and I assembled the closet together. We got it done in a couple of evenings.

There are series in which furniture is produced only for hallways, such as “Chusig” or “Pinnig”, for example. In some series you can find furniture not only for hallways, but also for the bedroom and living room (“Hemnes”, “Brimnes”, etc.). The second option is suitable for those for whom it is very important that the furniture be in the same style throughout the house.
