Each bedroom must have a bed and a wardrobe for storing things. They take up a lot of space, and therefore it can sometimes be very difficult to arrange them correctly in a room, without damaging the interior and space. Therefore, it is worth considering 10 interesting ways to arrange furniture in a room.

Headboard in niche

Often the bed is placed in a niche created artificially using drywall, but this method takes up useful space in the room unnecessarily. It is much more rational to use two cabinets in which you can put things. With the correct selection of cabinet fronts to match the walls, you can create the effect of a natural niche. The result is a secluded seating area with cabinets that are invisible at first glance.

What types of beds are there?

Beds are divided according to the number of beds and functionality:

  • Single bed - width 80-120 cm and length 190-210 cm.
  • Double bed - width 160-230 cm and length - 200-220 cm.
  • Single bed - width 120-160 cm and length 190-220 cm.
  • A platform bed with a pull-out storage system can replace numerous chests of drawers in a small room and free up space.
  • A sofa bed is an excellent option for studios, where the bed is a sleeping place and the sofa is a sitting area in the living room.
  • A transforming bed is perhaps the most compact of all existing options; in a few seconds the bed turns into a wall.
  • A bunk bed is a bed with two floors and two sleeping places, most often used in children's rooms.

Tip:
To choose the right size bed, you need to add 15-20 cm to a person’s height.

Hanging cabinets and cabinets

A hanging wardrobe and bedside tables will look original and interesting, with free space left to place lighting fixtures, photographs of loved ones, and an alarm clock. Instead of one of the bedside tables, you can put a chest of drawers. Hanging cabinets are convenient for storing seasonal items, bed linen, blankets and other items that are not often needed.

Asymmetrical wardrobes if the bed cannot be placed in the middle

It is not always possible to fit cabinets around the bed perfectly. Especially when the room is too long or too narrow. In this case, asymmetrical cabinets save the situation. The main thing to remember is that the cabinets on one side and the other must be in the same style and color.

A built-in bedroom is a single furniture and, most often, three-dimensional structure, which, once assembled, cannot be moved separately. Despite the volume, it covers all tasks: storing clothes, decor and even an ironing board.

Asymmetry

Two identical cabinets are beautiful and convenient, but sometimes the style of the room requires asymmetry, so it is better to replace one of the cabinets with a chest of drawers with open shelves.

There are a huge number of ways to arrange furniture in the bedroom, the main thing is to correctly calculate the space and choose the most convenient way to arrange the bed and cabinets.

Types of cabinets above the bed

A closet above the bed saves space better than other storage systems and is especially suitable for rooms with high ceilings. So, if the width of the space is not enough, you can use the height.

Important:
In order for any closet above the bed to hold tightly, the walls must be smooth.

Mezzanine for all things at once

A mezzanine over a bed is a U-shaped structure of closed and open storage systems above the head of the bed. This closet combines a bedside table, a shelf above the bed, and a wardrobe for storing clothes, which significantly saves space.

Wall shelves for decoration

Hanging shelves above the bed are most often a decorative element. They place photographs, vases, flowers, etc. However, they can simplify your routine and even replace your bedside table. For example, your favorite book or hand cream is always nearby.

Important:
To correctly measure the height of the shelf above the bed, sit at the head of the bed and add another 30 cm from your head.

A shelving unit above the bed is most often a closet with an open storage system that occupies the entire wall above the head of the bed, just like the mezzanine. A cabinet without doors suggests that there will be decor on the shelves, and there will always be order inside.

Tip:
An open storage system can overload a small space with an abundance of decor and you, increasing your cleaning time.

Bookcase if there is no room for a library

A bookcase above the bed is suitable for people who don’t have room in their apartment for a full-fledged library, but really want one. Such a cabinet will look especially stylish in loft interiors. And a bookcase is a good way to decorate a space.

Wall cabinets for tight rooms

Wall cabinets above the bed are a good technique for cramped rooms, and the fronts of the cabinets can become a bright accent in the room. Just remember that it is better not to put anything heavy in such structures, but to properly install such a cabinet, sit at the head of the bed and add another 30 cm from your head.

Niches made of plasterboard to suit any desire

A plasterboard niche above the bed can be a completely decorative element (an illuminated arch is a decoration at the head of the bed) or functional (to hide pipes, protrusions and serve as a closet). The advantage of such a niche is that you can create a design for any task.

Ready-made furniture wall for spacious rooms

The finished furniture wall above the bed is a modular design where all the cabinets, bedside tables, and shelves are connected. They cannot be separated or moved separately. This wall looks voluminous, so it is better to leave it for spacious rooms.

Leave room for passage

For convenient and comfortable movement around the room, it is necessary to take into account the size of the corridors. The distance from the edge of the bed to the wall or closet with sliding doors should be at least 70 cm; this passage to the bed will allow you to undress and lie down comfortably. If the bed is a double, leave these steps on both sides. Making the bed and changing clothes will be easier in this case.

If the room does not allow such an arrangement, place the double bed with one side facing the wall. At the same time, there should be free space at the feet so that the person sleeping against the wall does not have to step over the partner, disturbing his sleep.

Mirror placement

In our opinion, identical wardrobes installed opposite each other parallel to the bed are an unusual solution that will allow you to comfortably organize men's and women's wardrobes in the bedroom. The main thing is to avoid large mirrors on the fronts of cabinets, since they will endlessly reflect each other, forming an alarming corridor of many mirrors going into the distance.

Small bedroom: how to place the bed between the closets?

In a small bedroom, where you need to fit a wardrobe, a bed and a workplace at once, the option would be to install a single transformable bed design with shelving, which combines all functional areas. If the bedroom is also narrow in a small area, then it is better to install two tall and single-door wardrobes on the right and left sides of the bed, and on top they can be connected with hanging shelves for books and photographs.

Tip:
In small rooms, light, glossy furniture looks good, as it reflects light and makes the space visually larger.

Zoning technique

A room divided into two large functional areas is not uncommon. For example, it can form a kitchen-living room, or a living room-bedroom. The second option requires the use of competent zoning, which will help visually and functionally divide the room. So, on the periphery of the two zones you can install a bed, with the head facing the living room, while on both sides of it you should put cabinets (possibly high to the ceiling). Calculate the width of each closet in advance so that you can then easily get from the guest area into the bedroom through the passage near the wall.

Asymmetrically

A pair of identical cabinets is convenient, and symmetry makes the room more harmonious. But in some cases, one of the closets near the bed can be replaced with a tall chest of drawers, a shelving unit or open hanging shelves.

So, there are many possible scenarios for arranging a sleeping area using cabinets; you just have to choose the most suitable option.

Separate wardrobe

Often, the bedroom is combined with a dressing room, which is quite logical and very convenient. So sections for storing men's and women's things, bedding and other things can be placed in a separate part of the room, for example, opposite the bed or in the corner. But in order to make the room visually seem lighter, and heavy cabinets do not clutter up the perimeter of the bedroom, they can be installed on the sides of the headboard, of course, if the length of the wall against which the bed stands allows this.

Single design

For compact studio apartments, a lift-up bed hidden during the day in the built-in wardrobe design is a real salvation. This option allows you to free up the space of a small room during the day, and in the evening it creates comfortable conditions for relaxing on a bed framed by spacious cabinets.
