Several ideas for creating a non-standard interior in an apartment

The living room is the place where guests and household members gather in the evenings. The room should be comfortable and cozy. In order for the design to become extraordinary, it is necessary to combine decorative furniture, brightness in finishing materials, panels, mosaics, and add decor. Don't overdo it, or the room will turn into a museum of strange things. If the walls are bright and rich, then it is better to choose furniture in muted tones.

The bedroom is a place of solitude, relaxation from the hectic rhythm of life. It should fit into the overall picture, but not look like the room of a mentally ill person. It is necessary to finish it in strict, calm colors, but at the same time add unusualness. Chairs shaped like wine glasses, an unusual bed, a mirrored ceiling, and photo wallpaper with a 3D effect.

In the bedroom you can put an extraordinary bathroom, for example, made of laminated wood

A children's room is the personification of a child's hobbies. Pirate ships, princess castles, spaceship, forest hut. All this is realized thanks to modern bright finishing materials and custom-made designer items. The main thing is not to overdo it with paints, because a child’s bedroom should also be a bedroom. A place where you can sleep peacefully and nothing will distract or irritate you. The room should fit smoothly into the style of the apartment.

The kitchen is a place for cooking, so its main component is convenience. Unusuality can be created with the help of decor and modern finishing. Tables, chairs of non-standard shape, decorative elements from dishes, lighting.

In the kitchen interior, give preference to furniture with fancy shapes and unusual colors.

The bathroom is a riot of fantasy. You can roam around thanks to modern finishing materials. Just imagine a bathtub among the waves of a raging ocean. And this is quite possible thanks to self-leveling floors with a 3D effect. The walls are decorated to resemble tropical forests, sandy beaches, and mountainous surroundings. All this is complemented by mirrors, lighting, and modern plumbing.

Arina Volkova: “A huge sliding screen measuring 2.5 by 3 meters appeared in my interior”

Designer Arina Volkova.

Designer Arina Volkova.

“The hardest moment in designing my interior was the decision to hang a TV in the living room. “The main decoration of the table,” as the postman Pechkin said, for me is the most terrible thing in the house. This does not mean that I do not watch TV, I do, I admit, and that is why it was necessary to find the right and original solution.

I love painting, I don’t like TVs - this fact helped to create a huge sliding screen measuring 2.5 by 3 meters in the interior. It wasn’t that difficult to make: opening mechanisms for sliding partitions, thin sheets of chipboard, printing on canvas.

The image was chosen quickly; “The Absinthe Drinker” has always evoked a variety of emotions in me. By dividing the picture into two screens, we got the concept: you are watching TV, a woman is sad without a glass; you turn off the TV, communicate with people - and the lover raises her glass to everyone present.

To give the print the realism of painting, it was covered with a painterly layer of paint on top. Together with a classmate, we remembered the wonderful years of studying at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts named after Ilya Repin.

The picture makes a different impression on everyone who enters. Some say that it conveys a difficult condition, others are surprised by the scale of the screen, and to others, everything created seems incredibly interesting and bright. One thing I can say for sure, she leaves no one indifferent. It’s like I’ve lived in this apartment all my life.”

Liquid wallpaper

This type of wallpaper is sold in bags. They are applied using a sprayer to the walls, where they harden after a while, allowing you to create a very unusual design. Liquid wallpaper is very similar to decorative plaster.

However, you should know that such wallpaper cannot be washed, otherwise liquid wallpaper will end up on the floor. This innovation costs about 120 rubles per 1 m2.

Eclectic interior for collectors and collectors

Eclecticism is the desire to concentrate the interests of all its inhabitants in the living room. Such a room is usually done in light colors, and collection items are hung on the walls. The main thing is not to overdo it, otherwise behind all this diversity you may not notice the recreation area itself. It is best to concentrate the seating area in the center, furnishings and decoration in light natural tones, and place things dear to your heart around the entire perimeter on open shelves, or hang them on the wall, as mentioned above.

Unusual shelving for your home collection

The fireplace is used as a decorative element of the room and as a structure that provides warmth. In addition, the mantelpiece serves as a place for family photos and decorative items. A winter evening by the fireplace will become not only warm, but also cozy. The crackling of the wood and the flames are soothing and also create an amazing atmosphere. Fireplaces fit perfectly into country style.

Original fireplace decor in the living room

Bright colors are rarely used to decorate bedrooms, but allowing yourself a riot of colors to decorate a living room is a great option. Walls in bright colors go well with rich shades in decorative elements. You can combine red, blue, orange colors at the same time. So a striped sofa with pillows of various colors goes well with turquoise walls, and you can hang curtains on the windows to match the pillows. It is better to keep the floor in strict tones; a brown or chocolate shade is suitable. If you don’t want to make the walls blue or turquoise, you can choose calm tones, but order an unusual setting. So, in a living room decorated with wood, sofas in bright orange shades look great.

A grand piano or billiard table would look great in an eclectic style living room. The combination of the extraordinary in the setting, design and play area creates a place for passive and active recreation in one space.

Every thing in this living room can be called an art object

You definitely won’t be bored in such a living room

The flight of fancy in creating an original design has no limits. The absence of walls expands the space and allows for an original selection of furnishings, lighting elements, and decor.

The colorful carpet on which the “coffee table” was placed added bright colors to the living room.

Flexible stone

Each cut of flexible stone is unique and does not look like other designs.

When buying flexible stone, you need to take care of finding a specialist, because you won’t be able to install the material yourself. Price for 1 m2 – 2200 rubles.

Every room has its own approach

Photos and paintings are a great option for the living room. Appliqué, framed fabrics and carpets, greenery and decorative panels will add completeness to the living room interior.

It would be appropriate to decorate an office or nursery with vinyl stickers, letters and inscriptions. The best decoration for a nursery is drawings drawn by a child. A slate board will be good as a stimulator of creativity. Drawings on the wall, voluminous appliqués that you can involve your child in making - all this will make the nursery a favorite corner for games.

Fabric paintings and a framed carpet will add coziness to the bedroom. Pompoms and yarn items will keep her warm. Gypsum tiles with wood imitation will bring back sweet dreams of rural life.

Mosaics and decorative plates on the walls are a wonderful decoration for the kitchen or dining room. Vinyl stickers and appliques are a completely universal decor, suitable for any room.

Liquid tile

With any touch, the pattern on the tile will change. The tiles are easy to clean and can withstand up to 80 degrees Celsius.

Irina Krasheninnikova: “I wanted to make a nursery contrary to stereotypes”

Designer Irina Krasheninnikova.

“I have a children’s room in my apartment, which caused heated controversy after the publication of the project. Here it is in the photo: a black rubber floor and a giant vintage diptych panel above the bed. They wrote to me that this is not a real nursery, that this is a production and the child does not live there. But she lives: my daughter is 8 years old and she loves her room very much.

Yes, I admit: I wanted to make a nursery contrary to stereotypes. However, I believe that there is a flair of tender romance here too. The walls are the color of pink heather, clouds on the bedspread. On the panel are symbols of peace, love and friendship: a dove, a young couple of Komsomol members, full of tenderness and hope, stretching out their hands to each other. My daughter doesn’t yet know what Soviet modernism is, she thinks that the prince and princess are depicted in bas-relief. This vintage Soviet bas-relief was found and rescued in Sochi (it was sold on Avito “for firewood”). It miraculously ended up in my possession and not in the oven, and I consider it one of my most valuable finds.”

3D floor

If you want sand or grass under your feet, then 3D floors are an excellent choice. When using floors, it will feel as if the picture under your feet is alive. Just look at a photo of an unusual interior design to make you want to purchase a 3D floor.

However, you should be aware that this type of flooring is easy to scratch. Over time, colors become dull.

To restore its former shine, you need to purchase a special washing machine. The price for a 3D floor is about 1,600 rubles per 1 m2.

DIY wall decoration

Creating a full-fledged interior is not only a choice of suitable materials and furniture, not only the arrangement of elements relative to each other, but also more subtle work, which is realized in the manifestation of the creative potential of the owner of the room.

To make your home not only pleasant and functional, you need to bring something original to your apartment that you probably won't find in any other home. This is easier to implement at the wall finishing level.

Wooden saw cuts

For all followers of the ecological concept in the interior and for those who feel it. Use a wood saw to decorate an entire wall or just part of it. Each saw has a different cutting edge, so these special decorations will be used specifically for you.

Use pieces of log that are the same size. Clean with sawdust and paint. Using a saw, you can decorate your living room, table, or bedroom in an original way. If saws rest against a kitchen wall, treat them warmly and waterproof.

Needlework

Those who like to tinker with threads and fabrics can try decorating their walls with frame embroidery, paintings on fabric or patchwork-style items using the patchwork technique. You can create collages from waste - use what you have on hand: coffee beans, shells, coins and much more.

Paper garlands

One of the cheapest options that will help you transform the walls of your home beyond recognition and bring creativity to them.

You just need nails, thread or twine and construction paper. Two nails are driven into the wall, and a thread with paper figures (hearts, butterflies, balls) threaded through them is stretched between them. The disadvantage of this method is its short duration.

Such products quickly fade in the sun, wrinkle and become deformed. Considering the cost-effectiveness of this method, you can replace old furniture with new ones at any time.

Wall photo gallery

Decorating one of the walls with photographs brings a sense of family unity to the interior, creates a special atmosphere, awakening the kindest and brightest feelings.

These can be large portraits, genre scenes or ordinary shots from everyday life. The collage looks great, allowing you to fit a variety of images. If desired, it can be thematically dedicated to a significant event, anniversary, or one of the family members.

Unusual composition of bright frames

Volumetric photos are a stylish addition to a modern interior

A wooden wall is an excellent backdrop for paintings and photo frames

Photographs of different sizes and shapes add modern dynamism to the interior. For example, make a space more conservative and static by decorating the wall with rectangular frames that are arranged horizontally on one or more lines. It unites this composition into a single whole - the color tone of the frame.

You can get away from the usual way of posting photographs by decorating the wall with a stylized image of a trunk, successfully placing portraits of family members on its branches, creating an entire family tree.

Photos without frames and pasted on thick cardboard in rich shades that echo the color pattern of other objects will help to add sophistication and originality to the interior. They are secured to tensioned cables, fishing lines, and chains.

Wise quotes, important wishes, monograms written on high-quality thick paper in an elegant font and framed in a gold frame will be emphasized and romantic. They are placed next to photographs or on an adjacent wall, creating a space filled with rhythm.

Famous aphorisms and quotes are often used as wall decorations

Important! If the wall area is small, then it is not necessary to make a large composition. You can place the photo on a narrow glass shelf, highlighting it with beautiful lighting.

Paper applications

Paper is the most affordable material for wall decoration. Decorations can be seasonal or temporary, such as for a holiday. The easiest way is a three-dimensional applique in the form of autumn leaves, flying birds or butterflies, folded in half and attached to the wall.

These butterflies can be placed on the wall to decorate them in different ways:

  • place the composition on the wall from a certain point (as if flying out of a socket or floor vase);
  • placed on a branch;
  • secure to circles;
  • place on the wall in a mobile way (on pins, studs or needles);
  • hang on an invisible line (“flutter” from the slightest draft);

Living floor for bathroom

Unlike the previous option, a living floor will allow you to really feel real moss under your feet. Such carpets should only be used in bathrooms.

What to do if you decide to go non-standard? Do you need to use specialists?

If you have little experience in organizing space, it is worth hiring a designer. You will receive the project and save your nerves and time, most of it. A professional will come up with a comfortable and ergonomic interior and save you from talking with electricians, plumbers and furniture makers.

Designers often like such spaces. They perceive them as a challenge to their creativity. Yes, you have to think harder, but often you come up with solutions that wouldn’t work in a standard layout. For example, in the middle of the apartment, organize a pentagonal dressing room or storage room so that two adjacent bedrooms have a more convenient shape.

Place the bed further from the wall, make a dressing room in an awkward corner and separate it all with a partition.

Neighbors' toilets

Unfortunately, the second light in the room is not always the icing on the cake. It happens that designers, in an attempt to save space, remove a bathroom from one apartment to place it in another. Formally, of course, people will go to the restroom in their living space, but such a toilet looks like an “appendix” that must be immediately removed.

A striking example of unsuccessful apartment planning. In addition to the neighbor's toilet, the elevator behind the wall causes inconvenience.

According to some experts, such non-ergonomic layouts in new buildings are just a marketing ploy. Potential buyers are willing to pay extra so that the elevator does not make noise behind the wall or for the absence of someone else’s toilet in the perimeter of their home. But if there is no opportunity to increase the purchase budget, people buy even such illiquid goods.
