Color palette
The first thing that comes to mind when planning the design of a children's room for a little representative of the fair sex is the color pink. However, the choice of shades is not limited to this, especially for teenage girls.
Depending on the temperament of the housewife, you can give preference to the following shades:
- blue and green – symbols of calm and tranquility, calm, relax and promote perseverance;
- yellow, orange, red – cheerful colors that stimulate physical activity;
- lilac, beige, pink - romantic and mysterious, positively influencing creative development.
In a children's room, generally accepted standards for developing a color concept that are suitable for both a baby and a teenage girl apply. Light shades and small patterns on wallpaper visually expand a small room, large prints and bright or dark areas give the room individuality.

Since 2010 I have been engaged in interior design and architectural design.
“Southern” bedrooms, where sunlight often penetrates, should be decorated in calm, cold and even dark colors. A “northern” room would benefit from wallpaper in warm and bright colors that compensate for the lack of sunlight.
Combination methods
A combination of several types of wallpaper will add originality and comfort. The main thing is to maintain harmony.
A successful combination is achieved by maintaining canvases in the same color scheme. Green with salad, pink with cream, blue with blue. Picture may vary.
It is also interesting to combine vertical (visually raising the room) and horizontal (expanding but lowering the ceiling level) lines.
The ceiling is sometimes also covered with wallpaper, but its tone is different from the walls.
Stylish decoration of one wall using patchwork technique is made up of various materials, images, photographs.
Wallpaper for drawing will also require a similar placement - a godsend for the development of creative abilities. Presented in the form of a self-adhesive smooth film or large-sized painting with a washable surface.
Wallpapers for girls of different ages
An important criterion when choosing a finish is the age of the owner of the room. The overall design of the space, the degree of psychological stress and aesthetic design depend on this indicator.
For newborns
In this case, design development will not cause difficulties even for a non-professional. Pastel-colored wallpaper is suitable for covering the walls. Here you can use neutral shades: blue, pink, cream, green, lilac.
They create a cozy atmosphere in the room. However, after three years of age, the finish will have to be changed to a brighter color.
For girls 3-10 years old
Here, when planning space, most often they are guided by two principles - the main calm color of the wallpaper and bright accents in the decoration of the playing area. Particular attention is paid to prints and drawings on the walls.
Beautiful wallpaper in a girl’s room can be depicting flower arrangements, favorite fairy-tale characters, or animals. In this way, it is possible to solve two problems: stimulate curiosity and provide psychological comfort.
For a teenage girl
The choice of wallpaper for a room for a child over 10 years old must be approached responsibly. In this case, you should not trust only the opinion of adults. Even the most stylish colors may not be perceived by the owner of the room as desired.
The design must be coordinated with it. Often the wallpaper in a teenage girl’s room is characterized by an extravagant design and contrasting combinations. You shouldn’t be afraid of this, you just need to balance the “bold” accents with neutral shades, perhaps dedicate only one wall for them.

Even children get bored with too bright prints. It may be worth offering the owner of the room a worthy alternative to too flashy images or using wallpaper stickers that are easily removable and allow you to adjust the design of the room at any time.
Romantic people often prefer floral and plant patterns and ethnic motifs.
But it is important not to overdo it with prints - neutral tones and wallpaper with a dim pattern should prevail, especially where the child’s gaze falls while doing homework. So that the canvas does not seem boring, it is desirable that it be embossed, interspersed, and not monotonous.
Taboo
In fact, absolutely any wallpaper in the interior has its advantages and disadvantages. Sometimes it is much easier to combine several types of trellises on the basis of one room in order to get a truly satisfactory result. However, there are types of finishing that, in principle, should be abandoned.
We are talking about fashionable fabric or velor trellises. High-quality products are very expensive. They really look very impressive and pretentious. However, expensive embroidery, gold embossing, and extravagant floral decor would be inappropriate for a girl 10-13 years old.
For very young children, such an aristocratic wallpaper design will be unacceptable in principle. It is worth remembering that fabrics have the ability to accumulate dust, and this is completely unacceptable in a baby’s room.
Variants of drawings and characters
It is rarely possible to maintain a strict style in a children's room. Wallpaper should match the chosen theme of the space, but not be too strict.
The most popular prints among girls are:
- butterflies;
- princesses and fairies;
- geometric pattern (stripes, checks, diamonds, polka dots);
- birds and animals;
- clouds, stars;
- abstractions;
- flowers and leaves;
- undersea world;
- graffiti;
- Balloons;
- hearts and others.
It is also recommended to take into account the design of other interior components. Too bright, printed curtains, carpets, bedspreads in combination with multiple patterns on the walls overload the space, making it too complex and tasteless.

When planning decoration for a long time, it is worth choosing wallpaper that does not lose relevance as the child grows up.
Which material to choose
If you plan to frequently change the design of a girl’s room by re-pasting wallpaper, you should give preference to the budget type – paper.
Such products are affordable, environmentally friendly, have many color options, and are easy to stick to the wall.
However, you need to be prepared for certain disadvantages: they fade quickly, are not suitable for washing, can peel off at the joints, and are subject to mechanical stress. Fortunately, the modern construction market offers many other wallpapers that are more practical.
Non-woven
Made from dense non-woven material based on cellulose with the addition of artificial fibers. Such wallpaper is durable, not susceptible to moisture and mechanical damage, thanks to the outer coating, it conducts air well and does not accumulate dirt.
Non-woven fabrics are available for painting (white with a relief pattern) and with a vinyl coating (various colors). Rolls are usually long - about 1 m, which reduces installation time compared to other types. Gluing is also easy - the glue is applied only to the wall.
Vinyl
These wallpapers are made from foamed synthetic material - vinyl, due to which they have a textured surface that is resistant to stains.
They can be wiped with a damp cloth, getting rid of traces of children's creativity. The material hides small irregularities in the walls well and has a long service life. The disadvantages include the lack of pores in the structure, which reduces breathability to a minimum.
Opponents also claim the release of harmful substances and low environmental performance. However, high-quality products are safe for children, and if the wallpaper is applied in a room with normal or low humidity, the risk of mold formation is almost eliminated.
Liquid
This is the name for a special wall covering that resembles decorative plaster. This wallpaper looks presentable, has no seams, has a unique texture, and lasts up to 10 years.
This coating is environmentally friendly, does not accumulate dust and is easy to clean. The disadvantage is the small variety of colors and lack of prints.
Wallpaper for drawing
An excellent solution for a creative girl - you can paint on this wall covering or create images with markers without fear of upsetting your parents.
This wallpaper can be a smooth self-adhesive film for reusable markers, similar to a slate for drawing with chalk.
There is another option - large-scale coloring with a washable coating or on a paper base, which allows you to preserve the child’s creative delights for many years.
Natural
This is an environmentally friendly material of natural origin for gluing walls. Paper is often used as its base, and the outside is decorated with bamboo branches, cork, and specially treated seaweed.
The main colors are brown and green, conveying the natural warm shades of materials of natural origin.
The advantages of such wallpaper are originality, good sound and heat insulation, textured surface. But there are also disadvantages - the coating quickly fades in the sun, is afraid of moisture and mechanical damage.
Fabric
These wallpapers are considered exclusive, elite finishing materials and have a high price. They are made from silk, linen, cotton, velor on a paper or non-woven basis.
Such wallpapers are environmentally friendly and original, have a pleasant texture and a long service life. There are also disadvantages - the complexity of installation, the accumulation of dust over time, the need for frequent wiping.
Photo wallpaper
Paintings pasted on the wall give the children's room a spirit of magic and make the interior extraordinary. The little owner of the room will certainly be impressed by such large-scale images of her favorite fairy-tale characters or beautiful landscapes.
Photo wallpaper can be made to order, based on your own ideas. The price depends on the materials used and the design.
Thus, self-adhesive wallpaper-illustrations on a non-woven basis will cost more than the paper version, which is attached with glue. The finishing material is demanding on the surface on which it is glued - it must be perfectly flat, otherwise the fragments of the picture will not fit together and the image will “float”.
Mass-produced products for girls are available in a wide range; the most popular are the following characters and types:
- princesses and fairies;
- Paris;
- heroes of fairy tales and cartoons;
- flowers;
- picturesque nature;
- sky;
- World map;
- cityscapes;
- imitation of shelves with books and more.
Pink color
Traditionally, pink and all its shades are used to decorate a girl’s room: from bright to pastel. This is easy to explain: pink has always been associated with princesses, with their femininity and beauty. In the twentieth century, this color became an invariable attribute of the increasingly popular Barbie dolls - clothes, accessories and interior items in the toy house, as a rule, were also in pink shades. This range has a beneficial effect on the psyche: it improves mood and smoothes out an aggressive state.
But is this color so good in decorating a nursery’s interior? In fact, there is a minus.
Pink can have a beneficial effect on the psyche of a little girl up to seven years old. But after, when the carefree period ends, it does more harm than good. Our article about the interior design of a nursery for a 10-year-old girl will help you move away from stereotypical options.
It’s not for nothing that this color is associated with frivolity, frivolity, immaturity, and excessive dreaminess. If your already matured daughter is a big fan of pink, then you should invite her to dilute it a little in the interior, using colors that go well with it - gray, white, cream, brown.
Photo examples of nursery design
By using different variations of color combinations and prints on the walls, you can create a unique space from a boring and monotonous bedroom.
Children's wallpaper for girls can become a means of zoning a room, dividing it vertically and horizontally to visually increase the area, and hide possible imperfections in the walls.
When choosing wallpaper for a girl’s nursery, you should decide on the material, color, and print.
It is important to take into account the age, temperament and preferences of the smallest housewife. Well-chosen wallpaper will visually correct the shortcomings of the room and personalize the space taking into account the interests of the baby.
Fairytale jungle
As a background, choose delicate emerald shades with turquoise, coffee and rich olive tones. One of the walls, not burdened with furniture and accessories, is decorated with photo wallpaper on the theme of an exotic jungle.
Indoor flowers are placed in the room: palm trees, orchids and other “thematic” plants. If a girl loves soft toys, the room contains toys of “traditional” inhabitants of exotic forests.
