A golden interior is the dream of many housewives; it is associated with wealth and luxury, and is a kind of sign of family well-being. But if you choose the design of the room and furniture in metallic tones, it is important to think through the future project correctly. Otherwise, instead of a self-sufficient and chic kitchen, there is a risk of getting tasteless “gypsy”.
One of the popular design styles where gold interior decoration is often used is Art Deco. Non-standard decoration and furniture allow you to preserve the spirit of the Victorian era and the feeling of high cost and pomp. Elements with gilding perfectly emphasize the severity and at the same time pretentiousness of the style. Let's take a closer look at what features distinguish Art Deco, and also talk about the competent use of yellow metallic shades in the interior.
What furniture to use in combination with gold in the kitchen
Natural wood is considered an expensive and luxurious material in itself, which not everyone can afford. And in combination with gold or gilded elements, it looks even more solid and presentable. Of course, you will have to spend a big budget if you decide to buy wooden furniture and a door for the kitchen.
Of course, you can choose kitchen modules that imitate the desired texture, which will be cheaper, since modern production technologies offer the buyer a wide choice in this regard. But furniture made of mahogany or ash would be ideal for a golden interior. Another spectacular option is imitation marble or natural stone.
Walls
In rooms facing north and lacking natural light, golden color compensates for this deficiency and visually expands the space.
An effective and elegant solution to this problem can be to paint the walls with white paint, and cover one of them with golden wallpaper. It would be useful to use decorative elements covered with gold.
The combination of white and gold in the kitchen
It is preferable to use light shades of white and gold in small spaces. Thus, a snow-white kitchen set will visually help make the room wider, and metallic yellow elements will create the effect of severity and antiquity. If you use interior design in Art Deco style or some other style, then be sure to think about the placement of modern household appliances. So that it does not spoil the overall picture and the perception of expensive design in gold, it is better to make a microwave oven, refrigerator or dishwasher built-in, hiding behind neat furniture facades. In this case, the kitchen will remain functional and will look noble, since the type of household appliances does not stand out from the stylistic unity.
In addition, it is in white + gold interiors that these colors can be implemented in a 1:1 ratio, while the space will be visually organic, without being overloaded with any one shade.
Modern interiors
It may seem that sunny-colored metal has no place in the design of modern interiors. However, experienced designers refute this opinion.
For example, a kitchen area decorated in a minimalist style may seem uncomfortable and expressionless, and the gold color will perfectly eliminate this problem.
At the same time, gold does not disturb the harmony, because... goes well with neutral shades of a minimalist style. Simple white or black lamps will be a very successful addition.
The golden color of the kitchen is very successfully combined with glass and plastic elements of the high-tech style interior.
Kitchen in black and gold tones
The combination of completely opposite colors gives an unusual look to any kitchen. Black and gold is a spectacular and catchy option that is difficult to imagine, but in implementation it turns out to be extremely unusual and shocking. However, when using a dark color (especially near the sink and stove), it is worth remembering that all dirt and drops will be visible, and you will have to clean more often.
Dinner Zone
Fashionable white kitchens will sparkle with new colors if you add the color of a precious metal to their design. This is easy to do - just paint the legs of the chairs and table yellow.
The combination of this decor with a white and gold chandelier will make the interior unusually holistic and almost perfect.
How to choose furniture for a gold kitchen
Creating a golden interior is quite a difficult task, especially if you are not a professional designer. Try to adhere to the following rules when choosing kitchen furniture:
- Give preference to facades that are laconic in shape and design, without additional decorative elements. Avoid complex carvings, panels, printing and designs, and moldings. The presence of gold plated trim already looks luxurious, so there is no need to add any other finishing. The rule also applies to cabinet handles and fittings. Their form should be simple and logical. If you still want to put complex-shaped furniture in a gold kitchen, then the color scheme is limited to neutral shades: beige, gray, shades of white.
- If you decide to purchase kitchen modules with gold facades, then the color of yellow metal should be avoided in the decoration of other furniture. The best option is beige, gray, white, brown or neutral tones, which can be combined with anything.
- If you want to add more gold elements and have a large kitchen-dining room, the dining table can be decorated with patina.
- If you are afraid that the use of gold facades will make the interior too heavy, then you can use a simpler option: purchase only the upper or only the lower cabinets in this design, and the rest in a neutral color.
- Another way to decorate your kitchen space in an unusual way is to add mirror or reflective surfaces. They always visually enlarge the space, and due to reflection they allow the gilding to “sparkle” in a new way.
- Carefully consider the placement of kitchen tables, cabinets, shelving and other furniture with gold. Strive for minimalism in the interior.
- The environment should be predominantly made of natural materials or with their realistic imitation. This applies to both the dining area and the design of the kitchen: wallpaper, flooring, ceiling.
- The maximum allowable amount of gold in the interior is about 25%, the rest is other complementary shades. Of course, you can choose golden facades and bright walls, but such a room will look tasteless and ridiculous.
- In small kitchens, the dominance of gold items and elements is completely contraindicated. Here it is better to take one or two items in a similar design. For example, install a gold sink, patina the furniture facades or table legs. You can do the same with household appliances. Choose one that imitates gold plating, while the rest of the kitchen will be decorated in calm and neutral colors.
Finishing
Gold color on the walls
The gold color is very warm and also reflects light, making it ideal for decorating kitchen walls with poor natural light. To create the illusion of sunlight in a room, you can:
- Cover one of the kitchen walls with gold wallpaper;
- Decorate the walls with decorative plaster with gold.
Photo examples of golden walls in the kitchen interior are presented below.
In an apron
Because of its size, a kitchen backsplash is the perfect place for a gold accent.
Most often, gold aprons are finished with mosaics, but you can also use other materials - printed tiles or painted tiles.
Ceiling
If you want the ceiling in the kitchen to be gold, then you can implement the idea using stretched PVC fabric, ceiling panels, or covering the entire surface with gold leaf or just stucco molding.
Golden kitchen lighting
A ceiling with spotlights looks impressive in a golden kitchen. They provide uniform light along the entire perimeter of the room, thereby illuminating the cabinet fronts in the best possible way. Another option is crystal chandeliers. Designers advise taking a closer look at bulky models consisting of a large number of glass beads. The most suitable place for such a chandelier is the dining area. A special atmosphere is created there, as if at a royal dinner.
Also, gold accents can be used in other interior details: paintings, lamp shades, cutlery, dishes.
What is best to combine with?
A win-win option is to add a neutral base to a gold-colored kitchen. The base can be light (white, beige, gray) or dark (brown, graphite, black). A calm palette will dampen the activity of gilding and even out the sensations from the perception of a golden kitchen.

For those who are ready to experiment, there are more complex, but no less beautiful combinations:
- Red. It is better to prefer rich, deep tones to blood red and scarlet: burgundy, marsala. The third could be white (acts as a diluent), black (makes the atmosphere more gloomy).
- Green. The principle is the same: deep shades - emerald, malachite.
- Blue. Colors mixed with black (indigo, azure, ultramarine, sapphire) will become an amazing background.

Concept
It is already in the title of the project. According to Sergei, many people unjustifiably consider the color gray to be boring and faceless. But the possibilities of this shade can pleasantly surprise. Exploring unusual color combinations, the designer decided to complement the cool and restrained gray with the warmth and nobility of gold. This is how the Gray & Gold project was born.
Open plan with three functional areas
The gray and gold background reflects functional urban spaces and modern interior styles. Golden shades refer to the luxury and spaciousness of an old mansion in the classical tradition.
Caring for gold color at home
- Initially, you need to choose high-quality material that will be reliable and durable.
- When choosing a material, pay attention to the quality of coatings and paints.
- Buy household chemicals that are not too aggressive.
- Do not use hard scourers or other cleaning items that could damage the coating.
If you use too aggressive cleaning products, gold kitchen elements may lose their color.
