The bathroom has long ceased to be just a sanitary block and has turned into an area for rest, relaxation and interior experiments. So it is not surprising that the main task of designers when decorating this room is to find interesting individual solutions to create an ergonomic, stylish and functional space within the overall design concept of an apartment or house.

In this review we will talk about popular styles and modern ideas in bathroom design using the example of photos from 2016-2017 from the Group’s portfolio.

Modern bathroom

What does a modern bathroom look like?
In the designers' vision, this is a multifunctional room decorated with a variety of materials. Combinations of wood, concrete, veneer, marble, etc. can be used there. But the choice of building materials is only one part of the work; it is also necessary to choose the right color scheme that will emphasize the originality of the room. Laconicism in the interior is at the height of fashion

Last year, this year, and next year, natural shades will prevail. The most popular shades for more than one season are white, beige, ivory and black. Gray and its shades are a universal choice, because it is easy to match any furniture and other accessories with them.

Rounded shapes

Popular design trends for 2016-2017 remain rounded shapes, which set the laconicism and style of the room.

Use of plumbing

Plumbing goes beyond the ordinary. A bathtub and toilet are not only necessary attributes of a modern room, but its main characters that give a special shine to the bathroom. Meanwhile, all the details are original and very easy to use.

The installation of standard trough baths is gradually becoming a thing of the past, and shower partitions are coming to replace them. You heard right! You won't surprise anyone with ordinary shower stalls. Shower corners are made in the form of a space fenced off with glass. If the size of the room allows, then in addition to the shower corner you can also place a bathtub. At the peak of popularity are high-tech bathtubs, as well as classic models with legs.

Glass shower cubicle

The toilet mounted in the floor is also losing its relevance; instead of classic designs, modern wall-hung toilets are coming into fashion. They look more compact and do not have bulky tanks. And cleaning underneath them is much easier.

Overhead bowl sinks are a trend for the 2015-2016 season. They can be of completely different shapes: round, oval, square, etc. Meanwhile, both wall-hung and built-in sinks can compete with them.

Faucets have not been spared by fashion. They are mounted directly on the walls in the bathroom or on its base. Models with a lever mechanism are the most convenient and popular. Valve models are losing their relevance.

Rectangular shapes

New types of sinks with rectangular toilets have appeared. The main color is white, different from the nightstand. The toilet and structures are suspended. All communications are built into the walls.

In general, it is not necessary to follow all the trends to create a modern bathroom, but using at least two or three of them will create a real paradise in this room for those who value not only beauty, but also the power of emotions and impressions. A bathroom designed in accordance with the current trends of this year can relax as well as any massage or energize you like a hot, invigorating drink. It is a reflection of individuality, which means it will become the main factor in creating comfort and coziness in the home.

Bathroom countertop

Increasingly, countertops are found in modern bathroom interiors. As a rule, it is made of natural stone or wood with a special coating. Overhead sinks look ideal on such a surface, and the space itself will serve as additional space for various accessories.

Japanese style

Japanese ethno style continues to gain popularity. Rooms decorated in this style are characterized by the use of environmentally friendly materials such as rice paper and expensive wood. Japanese-style tiles (sakura, oriental houses with a triangular roof, etc.) will look just great!

Tiling

Tile occupies a special place in bathroom design. Walls tiled with horizontal borders will not surprise anyone. Of course, the walls in such an interior will look beautiful, but fashion does not stand still. Now new ideas for this room are trending.

  • Tiles must be chosen in different shades, and this applies not only to the tone of the floor and walls. On different walls there may be tiles of different shades, but of the same texture.

Advice. Buy tiles from one manufacturer. Different colors of one collection will complement each other perfectly.

  • What remains constantly in trend are geometric and ethnic patterns. As a rule, such an ornament has a bright color. And in order not to overdo it with decor, it should be used sparingly. Otherwise, instead of a modern and fashionable design, you will get a catchy and flashy interior.

Wood effect tiles

  • In 2015, wood-effect tiles for the bathroom became very popular. Don't forget about the color of gray concrete, asphalt and dark granite.
  • The fashion also touched upon options for laying tiles. Mosaic, beloved by many, has not given up its position for a very long time. Standard installation is used mainly for cosmetic repairs or as a classic finish. The herringbone pattern is the same as on parquet, but only in tiles - a real boom of the season. Modular installation has also become very popular, as has the decoration of walls with hexagonal tiles - a kind of honeycomb pattern.

Advice. Designers suggest combining finishing materials. Use plaster in the bathroom, and lay tiles only in places where protection from moisture is necessary (in the shower corner, near the sink, along the wall where the bathtub is located, etc.).

Tile Layout Trends

As for the tile layout options, today boar tiles ("subway") and herringbone tiles are mega popular - classic patterns that have lost their relevance for a long time and are now in trend.

Lovers of experiments and bright colors will be happy - this year, inserts of colored tiles into a traditional neutral pattern are fashionable.

At a new stage of popularity are mosaic tiles for decorating floors and individual sections of walls, as well as large-sized seamless floor and wall tiles.

Mirror surface

No bathroom is complete without mirrors. This is one of its main attributes. Meanwhile, standard-shaped mirrors with many shelves or wall cabinets with mirrors are disappearing into oblivion.

Large mirrors will make the bathroom look larger

Large mirrors or models without mounting are at the peak of popularity. They are simply placed on shelves in the bathroom. The mirrors are framed with small thin frames, which gives them a special sophistication.

Loft style

Its main feature is the finishing made of concrete or brick. The interior always has a lot of glass objects such as shelves, partitions, chrome-plated elements (faucets, various fixtures, furniture legs), steel and ceramic products.

Bathroom furniture and lighting solutions

Forget about standard furniture from stores. Modern bathroom furniture is made to order. A wooden or stone countertop, a vanity unit made from a combination of painted chipboard and veneer, shelves with mirrors and miniature cabinets are the main details of a fashionable bathroom in a modern style.

Bathroom lamps in loft style

Lighting in the bathroom is another important detail. At first glance, this is an insignificant issue, but a lot depends on it. The light in the bathroom should change its intensity. For example, calm, dim light is suitable for taking a bath, but brighter lighting is needed for applying makeup.

Edison lamps, built-in sconces and loft-style lamps are especially popular at the moment. It is the lighting of the bathroom that determines how the interior decoration and tiling will look. Light plays on these details.

You will have to abandon ordinary spotlights if you do not want to get a banal interior.

Attention to the sink

Designers are currently paying special attention to this subject of plumbing.

Many companies have launched the production of sinks from the most unusual materials, ranging from tempered glass to cast iron. Actually, if a person uses the sink several times a day, then such attention is completely justified.

Sinks with graceful legs, without the use of a cabinet underneath, are becoming very popular. They are usually used in retro-style interiors, but they can be an excellent stylistic solution in other cases, for example, when the room is in the art deco or minimalist style.

Small modern bathroom

A small bathroom is, unfortunately, the reality of many Russian apartments. But this does not mean that it will not be possible to embody fashionable design ideas. Of course, in a large room it is much easier to come up with solutions, but you can also bring fresh ideas to a small bath.

  • For a small bathroom, small tiles (square or rectangular) are perfect. You can even choose a tile that is large but displays small cells.

Small bathroom design

  • The same goes for floor tiles. Don't choose oversized tiles for a small bathroom. It is advisable that the size of the tiles be no more than 30 cm in width and length.
  • Plain tiles without patterns for a small bathroom are the choice of designers in 2015. You can play up its simplicity with various accessories.

Advice. Don't forget about places to store household chemicals and other small items. Sliding bath screens or compact cabinets are perfect for this.

  • Avoid baths and showers. Nowadays, a shower that is fenced off with a glass barrier is in fashion. This technique will not only give an external airiness to the room, but will look very modern.
  • Tile and furniture in white, beige and any other light shade will help to visually enlarge a small room.
  • Install a large mirror. This is not only a necessary piece of furniture, but also a well-known design technique that will help expand the space of the room.

Bathroom design in gray tones
A bathroom, regardless of its size, can be decorated in a modern, fashionable style. To do this, it is necessary to take into account the main trends of the season: the multifunctionality of the room, the use of natural materials and light colors for decoration. And don’t forget about the details, which play an important role.

Combining a shower cabin with a bathtub

If previously almost all designers universally recommended abandoning the bathtub in favor of a shower stall, now this advice is undergoing changes. Many of those who gave up baths then miss those rare moments when they were still able to take a bath, soak in the foam and completely relax. Designers recommend paying attention to such plumbing fixtures as a shower cabin with a bathtub. It looks much nicer than old-fashioned bathtubs, and at the same time remains fully functional. And of course, it completely suits those who are not ready to waste time taking a bath, but remain faithful to daily and quick showers.

If finances allow, you can choose a model with a sauna function, which means the room will not only be pleasant, but also useful.

Fashionable bathroom tiles 2016: emphasis on quality

Many people ask the question: “why tile?”, but there is a banal explanation for this question. Each type of room requires the optimal finishing material. In the case of a bathroom where the level of humidity is high and there is a constant temperature difference, it is impossible to find a better material than ceramics.

Tiles are the most acceptable material for finishing a bathroom. There are a number of significant advantages to this:

  • Moisture resistance. The surface of the tile can withstand constant moisture. If the seams are sealed tightly, then even if the room accidentally floods, you will not flood the neighbors below.
  • The tiles are easy to care for. The notorious droplets that occur in conditions of constant humidity and condensation settling on the tiles spoil the appearance of the bathroom. They are easy to remove from tiles, and on white tiles they are not noticeable at all. When cleaning tiles with chemicals, they do not deteriorate or change color.
  • Ceramics can withstand constant and sudden temperature changes. Thanks to its texture, the tiles can withstand severe frosts, but for indoor spaces this parameter is not so important.
  • Dry ceramics are not a conductor of current. This feature is important for finishing utilitarian rooms.
  • The tiles are fire resistant. This material does not burn or smolder, and therefore does not support combustion itself.
  • Tile is a durable and wear-resistant material. Other types of cladding lose their former attractive appearance over the years, but ceramics do not. That is why it is worth giving preference to this material. Such repairs may not be cheap, but they will last you for decades.
  • Tile is a practical material. Through masonry, you can hide unevenness and imperfections in the bathroom, visually ennobling the space.

Like any other material, tile has its drawbacks. The main ones:

  • Tile is a fairly fragile material. An intense impact or the fall of something heavy can destroy the tiles.
  • Installing ceramic tiles is very difficult. Without skills and special cutting tools, it is impossible to carry out competent and accurate repairs. Accordingly, you will have to spend money to attract a tiling specialist.

Accent art piece

Give me some art in the bathroom! The walls of this room are also worthy of stylish decor. Choose paintings or contemporary art objects that will become the main accents in the room.
