Do you think that the bathroom design shown in the photo will require a lot of money and time? In vain. Decorating with plastic panels will take a couple of days. This is a chance to radically change your bathroom design and keep it clean with ease.

Advantages of the material

Plastic panels are in no way inferior to tiles. The indisputable advantages of the material are price and excellent sound insulation.

Stylish interior of a hygiene room in dark colors

The range allows you to realize your decor idea using:

  • decorative design;
  • imitation marble, wood;
  • fashionable 3D images;
  • photo printing;
  • colored background of any shade.

Plastic in a classic bathroom

The palette of PVC panels is varied - from pastel to bright shades, and even deep black with a glossy and matte surface.

How to choose plastic panels

When purchasing plastic panels, pay attention to the following aspects:

  • Mechanical strength. Squeeze the panels with your fingers: they should not wrinkle easily.
  • The plastic must be soft, but resilient and elastic, otherwise it will crack and break during installation.
  • Another important nuance is the coincidence of the pattern. You can clearly check this by placing several panels in one row.
  • Joint quality. When connecting panels, the joint must be tight, without gaps or cracks.

What solution is plastic bath decor suitable for?

The use of cladding with moisture-resistant boards is relevant for small-sized apartments. Inexpensive and modern. Beautiful and rich.

A white bathroom looks beautiful and very spacious.

Bathroom decor with plastic tiles will never be boring. It opens up wide scope for the implementation of the most extravagant ideas. But not for the classic style, country, Provence, art deco.

For such design solutions, natural materials in combination with tiles are appropriate.

Latte color in bathroom decoration

Plastic products are great for modern, high-tech, contemporary, minimalism, due to the possibility of a harmonious combination of patterns.

Shades and elements of images can be alternated during the installation process, which allows you to realize any creative idea.

The most popular images are flowers, sea animals and scenes, mosaics. Friezes skillfully imitate marble and granite tiles with a smooth or embossed surface, glossy sheen or noble matte texture.

White bathroom with added fittings

PVC cladding with a frieze under a wood texture can give the bathroom an updated interior.

One of the stylish solutions is a printed panel around a mirror or shower area. The rest of the wall surface is one color.

Combining panels with three different patterns is in fashion. Alternating different stripes allows you to give surfaces a unique look and visually “stretch” the walls upward.

Soft blue tones make the bathroom very delicate

Even a small volumetric 3D image on plastic will add airiness to the space.

PVC materials combine perfectly with modern decorative materials, so the surface cladding around the sink and bathtub with walls decorated with moisture-resistant plaster or wallpaper looks impressive.

Delicate interior in marble style

You can visually enlarge the room with the help of small images on plastic located across it.

Fragments with a pattern in the form of a small mosaic or frieze are better suited for small rooms, and panels with a large image are better suited for decorating spacious rooms.

Modern design approach

The bathroom is decorated in a variety of styles. Manufacturers have tried their best: now the choice of plastic panels is a wide range of shades, as well as the presence/absence of patterns. Therefore, it all depends on the overall design of the apartment, the size of the room and personal preferences.

Sea style

For those who decide to choose this particular direction, designers advise using panel shades that are close to natural. Additionally, you need to choose decor. Paintings depicting the sea, coast, and marine life would be appropriate. Large mirrors will help make the room visually wider. All kinds of shells, sea stones or sand in a vase will fit harmoniously into this direction.

Modern

This direction in design assumes the presence of free space and the absence of extraneous elements. Its highlight can be the strict zoning of space. A multi-level ceiling with built-in lamps would look good. But with any choice of furniture and plumbing fixtures, modernity requires light colors.

Minimalism

Everything unnecessary is removed here. Plastic panels will fit perfectly into such a room. When choosing a shade, you need to proceed from the size of the room. If the area is small, you should give preference to a light color scheme (blue, peach, beige), which can visually expand the space. Owners of a spacious bathroom can afford dark, deep and rich shades (blue, brown, black, burgundy).

Country

Country style accepts panels that imitate natural wood. The interior will be complemented by simple wooden furniture without unnecessary decorations and a small chandelier.

Provence

Provence in PVC finishing easily fits into a combined or separate bathroom. The choice of style is light colors, simple components and furniture that will not overload the space. As decoration, you can use porcelain small things (vases, soap dishes) with a floral pattern, antique whitewashed furniture.

Technical parameters of PVC panels

The basis of the products is polyvinyl chloride, which meets modern requirements for environmental friendliness, hygiene and safety.

Black bathroom in white

Each panel consists of two thin sheets of plastic connected by longitudinal stiffeners.

They form cells in the form of a honeycomb, so an air gap is created under them after installation. This structure provides thermal and sound insulation.

The advantage of this material is aesthetics, strength and durability.

Plastic does not absorb moisture, so it is not subject to deformation. During installation, the sheets of decorative plastic adhere tightly thanks to the protrusions along the edges.

This is a guarantee of 100% waterproofing; the light weight of the panels eliminates additional load on the base of the walls and ceiling.

PVC products are not deformed under the influence of high temperature. Images do not fade or be erased.

Wide stripes look very interesting

Contaminants can be easily removed from the plastic surface. High-quality installation and regular maintenance contribute to operation for up to 10 years or more.

If you need to change the interior, the panels can be quickly and easily removed. Their installation does not require preliminary finishing of the walls. Communications can be hidden behind them.

Exquisite marble bathroom with shower

Three-room apartment with an area of 81 sq. m is located in a panel house of the P-44T series. A business woman lives there with her first-grader son. The main interior style is American classics. The internal partitions are load-bearing, so no redevelopment was required. The bathrooms were combined by previous residents.

The owner asked to replace the bathtub with a shower stall with transparent doors. The washing machine was placed under a single countertop made of artificial stone. A wall-hung toilet was installed, and utility cabinets were designed to store things and disguise pipes. The bathroom is tiled with porcelain tiles that imitate marble, making the decor look noble and elegant.

Shape and dimensions

Typically, manufacturers produce PVC fragments 2.5–4 m long and 5–10 mm thick.

White color makes the room more spacious

There are versions of plastic panels sold on the market that are thinner and shorter than standard parameters, but they are less durable, so their use in the bathroom is irrational.

Gray plastic for the bathroom looks strict and laconic

Depending on the design idea, you can buy PVC on the market in the form of:

  • standard sheets 10-37 cm wide, mainly with a frieze imitating tiles;
  • slats representing narrow long stripes 10 cm wide with a monochromatic design;
  • seamless sheets up to 2 m wide, usually with a ready-made design solution on the front side.

Large ones allow you to reduce installation time. However, it should be remembered that in a small bathroom, plain wall cladding without seams can create the impression of a box.

Beautiful white surfaces combine with wood

Slatted plastic ones take longer to install, but allow you to adjust the space.

Horizontal installation of slats will visually expand the room, and vertical installation will visually “raise” the ceiling.

Disadvantages of plastic panels:

  • low level of resistance to mechanical damage;
  • reduction of usable space due to installation;
  • the difficulty of installing additional wall shelves and cabinets that require slats;
  • the need to accurately calculate the joining of friezes and drawings.

But these disadvantages successfully replace the advantages. In addition, manufacturers continue to work to improve product characteristics and create new installation methods. Some panel options can already be glued or installed using clips.

Cladding installation methods

To attach slats to the wall, you can use three methods:

  1. Glue installation. The plates are glued directly to the wall, which is only possible for a flat base. The advantage of the method is the high speed and ease of work. The downside is that it cannot be dismantled.
  2. Self-tapping installation. The slats are attached to a wooden sheathing, which is assembled on the wall. The frame can be metal, but then fixing the screws is complicated. This method can be used on uneven substrates.
  3. Fastening with clamps. The panels are mounted on special holders, which are attached to the metal sheathing. The resulting coating can be easily dismantled if necessary. You can also easily replace damaged cladding.

Criterias of choice

A number of technical characteristics of the products can be seen upon careful examination:

Lining in the decoration of the bathroom

  • the surface of each surface must be smooth;
  • the dimensions must exactly correspond to the information on the label;
  • the composition should not contain more than 43% ethylene, 57% combined chlorine;
  • the more stiffening ribs, the higher the strength of the panel;
  • The color tone should be even and the image clear.

The latte color of the plastic trim looks harmonious with the tiles in the bathroom

High surface texture makes cleaning difficult. Dirt and water will accumulate in the protrusions, which leads to the formation of mold. The same problem occurs with poor installation.

Photo wallpapers and paintings on the wall in the bathroom

Large format printing is trending today. Thanks to digital technology, you can print individual photographs on almost any material: vinyl wallpaper, glass, self-adhesive film. The printer can depict any theme - the most popular are 3D effects . Photo wallpapers on glass and protected by glass are mainly suitable for the bathroom. There are many companies providing such products in the market.

Photo wallpapers on glass are ordered by size, so there are no problems with their installation on site. Photo wallpapers do not have to occupy the entire wall - you can stick them on some part. You can choose a photo from a ready-made offer or use your own. For example, children's drawings are absolutely unique and creative.

How much to buy

Accuracy of calculation is the key to budget savings. Calculating surface area is not enough, because corners and transitions will not allow for waste.

Their volume increases when choosing lamellas with asymmetrical patterns. It is not possible to use pieces with this decor in other places in the bathroom.

Variety with narrow stripes

Therefore, for standard slabs you should buy 10-15% more of the surface area to be finished. For complex designs, it is better to calculate the number of panels individually.

It is better to buy screws, self-tapping screws, and clamps in packs, because it is impossible to count their exact number. It is easier with slats and profiles, because they divide the surface into squares, but it is preferable to purchase with a reserve.

This material currently has great potential

Advice When preparing for installation, it is better to first assemble the drawing and attach it to the wall using tape. This will help avoid errors in calculations.

How to install panels when mounted on a ceiling diagonally

Let’s say right away that such work is much more complicated; you will have to lose more time on installing the sheathing and adjusting each individual lamella.

Step 1 . Calculate the ceiling area and determine the maximum panel length. Everything is clear with the ceiling area, but to determine the maximum length of the panel you need to use the formula A2 + B2 = C2. A and B are the length and width of the bathroom ceiling, C is the diagonal. Hence C = √ A2 + B2. Keep in mind that this method of finishing the ceiling increases the amount of waste, buy about 15% more materials.

Step 2. Attach three skirting boards to the ceiling, the method is described in the article above. Take measures to ensure that the baseboards do not diverge in height while the glue is drying in the corners.

Step 3. Cut a piece of lamella from one of the ends at an angle of 45°. From the intersection point, cut a second piece at the same angle. The result is a launch panel, the shortest one, installed in the corner.

Step 4. Insert it into place, measure the length of the larger part. This will be the size of the smaller edge of the second lamella. Apply these parameters to the new panel and cut both sides at a 45° angle.

Installation of suspended ceiling

Using the same method, cut and install all remaining slats. As we already mentioned, the amount of waste is increasing.

Diagonal arrangement of panels

Installation can be done by anyone

Plastic sheathing is done with your own hands, even without special skills. This is a way to quickly and profitably decorate a room without outside help.

Installation does not require leveling the surfaces with plaster. Frame and adhesive cladding methods are used.

Beautiful plastic lining in the bathroom

For the frame method you need to stock up on:

  • drill;
  • screwdriver;
  • screws and dowels;
  • hacksaw;
  • pencil;
  • triangle;
  • tape measure;
  • bath baseboard;
  • plastic moldings;
  • sealant.

Easy to install yourself without seeking help from specialists

Before installation, an antiseptic primer is sprayed onto the surface of the walls to 100% prevent the formation of mold.

Bathroom walls: trendy concrete

Bathroom wall tiles perfectly imitate not only wood - the second most popular material is imitation concrete - smooth, worn, light, dark. Slabs 120 x 120 cm are no longer uncommon, they are becoming more and more common.

And since porcelain stoneware is easier to maintain and does not require labor-intensive installation technology (for example, natural concrete), it finds many supporters. Imitation stone looks especially good on large formats.

Two types of cutting

1When cutting along the lamella, a long, even strip is pressed tightly against the marking contour and one side is cut along the entire length using a mounting knife, grinder or hacksaw. Then it turns over and bends at the place of the cut. Fully cut along the fold.

2With the transverse method, the jumpers located between the planes are first cut in turn. The final cut is also made along the fold.

Striped panels look nice in the bathroom

Project of a combined bathroom in blue tones

A small two-room apartment of 51 sq.m is located in a panel house of the P44-T series and belongs to a young family with a child. The customers took advantage of the opportunity to remodel the bathroom and combined the bathroom with the toilet. This solution made it possible to construct a cabinet in the free space in which the washing machine was hidden (the compartment to the right of the drawers). The entire storage system is thought out to the smallest detail: every centimeter is used, including the space above the wall-hung toilet. The furniture was made according to the sketches of the authors of the project.

Marazzi Italy tiles and Little Greene paint were used for finishing; Wow porcelain tiles were laid on the floor. Sanitaryware Roca.

Sequence of stages of wall cladding

Getting started - removing all disturbing things from the room so that there is free access to surfaces.

Cool and very fashionable bathroom interior

  • Measuring the height of the walls.
  • Trimming metal profiles to the required height.
  • Installation of vertical profiles at a distance of 50 cm from each other, starting from the left side.
  • Screwing fasteners at a distance of 40 cm at the same level, starting from the bottom.
  • Gaps of 3-3.5 mm are left between the wall and the ceiling, the wall and the floor.

Delicate and very soft bathroom interior

The result is a strong frame - the foundation. Then the cells are filled with foam.

After laying it, lighting wiring will be done - sockets, places for lamps. The last stage is attaching the plastic panels to the profile with a tight connection of the fragments, gluing the baseboards on top and bottom.

To install the panels, self-tapping screws, screws or nails are used. The panels can be secured using clamps that “fasten” the elements to the sheathing. They allow faster installation, but are more expensive.

For bathrooms, horizontal installation is not recommended, because moisture can easily get into the joints, and then penetrate into the space under the slats and provoke the formation of mold.

In small rooms, using a frame for finishing “eats up” precious centimeters of space. But this is not a reason to refuse this option of decorating with plastic. They can be glued.

Relaxed bathroom interior reminiscent of Chinese style

It’s just that in this case it will be problematic to replace the damaged element. It will not be possible to install built-in lamps or insulate the room.

Enclosed in a large space, the bathroom creates a warm and special comfort

Preparing the walls

The main requirement for the surface on which plastic slats are mounted is that it must be flat.

  • To do this, the protrusions on the walls must be knocked down and the recesses sealed with cement mortar.
  • The permissible height of irregularities is up to one and a half centimeters.
  • Wash the walls from dirt and degrease with a product containing alcohol. It is better not to use gasoline and thinner.

It is recommended to treat the walls with antifungal agents to prevent the growth of harmful bacteria and mold.

Dealing with them later, after the panels are installed, will be much more difficult. To do this, you will have to dismantle the panels, carry out processing, and re-repair the bathtub with panels. Between the wall and the panels is the most favorable place for the growth of fungal bacteria.

Secrets of frameless cladding

Before frameless installation of PVC, it is necessary to level and prime the surface of the walls. For fastening, use liquid nails, taking into account the consumption of 1-2 standard cans per 5-6 sq. m. m or.

In a small bathroom, the interior in light colors visually expands your space

The adhesive is applied to the slab in dots with a distance of 5-10 cm from the edge. The dots are arranged in a checkerboard pattern.

Installation is carried out from the corner clockwise. It is applied to the surface with little force, because the panels are “afraid” of large mechanical impacts.

The advantage of plastic is elegance, reliability and durability

Almost immediately the decorative sheet is detached from the wall surface to allow the glue to dry. After 5-10 minutes the panel is finally installed in place. The upper and lower edges are additionally secured with dowels.

Compliance with this technology is mandatory so that there is no distortion of the following stripes.

Classics with an old style look ambiguous

Combined bathroom decorated in natural tones

The area of a three-room apartment in a panel house is 65 square meters. m. We managed to place two full bathrooms here: the customers (a woman with two daughters) love to receive guests, so toilets were installed in both rooms, and in one of the bathrooms - a small washbasin with a mirror.

Single-color porcelain tiles were laid on the bathroom floor, and the walls were tiled with two-color tiles. The top is standard white, and the bottom is gray with a complex green undertone. Accents include furniture with a wood texture and a curtain with floral patterns. The sink cabinet and toilet are wall-hung. The plumbing fixture is adjacent to a non-load-bearing wall made of foam blocks, in which the installation is hidden. Hanging elements make the room seem more spacious and are easier to clean.

The nuances of finishing ceiling panels

Decorative slabs 20-25 cm wide with a glossy surface are used to cover the ceiling. You can't do without a frame.

It is installed according to marks on the surface of the walls. They are easy to make using a water level. The starting point is applied to one wall, and then to the corners. The marks are connected into assembly lines.

A bathroom in light gray looks beautiful and very free

The ceiling frame is made of spruce or pine slats measuring 20x40 mm or 20x50 mm. To fasten the slats, U-shaped hangers are used, which are placed every 40-50 cm. The frame for the lamps is additionally strengthened.

Installation begins with screwing the baseboard to the frame. Then the decorative slats are inserted under the baseboard on one side, and then on the other and attached to the sheathing with screws.

Easy to install yourself, without turning to specialists for help

During installation, the electrical wires are routed outside. The installation is completed by treating the seams with silicone sealant.

It is better to install ceiling tiles diagonally and use screws with a press washer, because the bathroom atmosphere is characterized by high humidity and temperature changes.

What is the difference between vertical and horizontal laying

Example of vertical panel arrangement

The only difference is that for horizontal laying of panels, the frame must be vertical and vice versa. For bathrooms, horizontal laying of panels is strictly not recommended. Water easily gets into the locks and then penetrates into the space between the panels and the wall. If there is a lot of it there and it is constantly there, then no amount of steam or moisture protection will help. The appearance of mold and mildew cannot be avoided. To destroy them, you will have to completely dismantle the wall covering, carry out a set of special preventive and construction measures, and re-cover the walls. Such work costs approximately twice as much as proper wall cladding.

Installing panels horizontally

Practical advice. Don’t invent a bicycle, don’t create problems for yourself with your own money. In bathrooms, install PVC panels only in a vertical position.

Vertical and horizontal way of arranging PVC panels

Equipment and additional elements

When finishing a bathroom or toilet with plastic panels, the following types of components are used:

  • Universal corner. It is a plate bent at a right angle. The part is used for finishing internal and external corners.
  • Skirting for floor and ceiling. Part of the profile is placed under the panels, the other side covers uneven cuts and surfaces.
  • Outdoor corner. Helps to beautifully decorate the outer corner, hiding unevenness.
  • Inner corner. It differs from the external one in the size of the sides. The wide part is placed under the lamellas, the narrow part is used to hide irregularities.
  • Connecting corner. Used to connect panels without a lock. It is used when the length of the lamellas is insufficient for finishing the surface.
  • Start/finish profile. It is installed when laying the first and last panels. Sometimes a finishing guide is used instead of a universal angle.
  • F-shaped corner. Placed at joints and can replace casing.
  • Sheathing plank. It is considered the main element of the frame. The part is made of metal or plastic.
  • Klyammer. Used to press panels to sheathing. Allows you to remove slats without damaging them.
  • Fastening elements. The material is secured with self-tapping screws, staples or liquid nails. The choice of fixation method depends on the installation method of the cladding and the quality of the walls.
