TV stand: types, choice of shape, material, color scheme, design

Professional designers note that the most noticeable area in the house is the area where the TV is located, since it is often given the central place.

Therefore, the TV stand must be selected carefully so that it fits harmoniously into the interior of the apartment.

In addition, you should also make sure that it not only has a decent appearance, but is also functional, because quite often this cabinet is used to store equipment that comes with the plasma panel.

Modern craftsmen also try to make this piece of furniture as convenient as possible, which is why today there are a huge number of movable models that are equipped with wheels for moving.

You can also see cabinets with special shelves for books, cassettes and small media equipment on sale.

How to choose a TV stand?

Recommendations for selection:

  • First of all, you should take into account the expected load on the product; the higher it is, the stronger and better quality the model should be.
  • The dimensions of the cabinet depend on the size of the TV; it is considered safer to place it when the TV does not extend beyond the structure.
  • Particular attention should be paid to fittings; they must have high strength, be reliable and of high quality.
  • The color of this product should preferably be in harmony with the color scheme of the rest of the furniture in the interior.

Color selection

The color of the wall must match the interior and look good with other furniture. It is very good if the shades of the furniture match the room.

The best color combination is when there are dark walls and light furniture (or vice versa). The combination of white floors with dark furniture is considered successful. This combination of color and furniture is found in different designs: minimalism, hi-tech. Additional accessories are not recommended for these styles.

In country music, any item is decorated with carvings. Historical styles even use gilding and forging. The loft style also features various interesting elements.

Types of structures

The following design types are distinguished:

  • Mounted. They are a more modern option that allows you to add more space to the room. Such hanging models can decorate either a specific area or be placed along the entire length of the wall. Any materials are used for their manufacture, but most often more weightless and light ones are used.
  • Floor-standing. They are a separate furniture element that can be equipped with legs or roller wheels. These stands may differ in the presence of additional compartments, open and closed shelves, drawers and a stand.
  • Built-in. Chests of drawers that accommodate not only thin plasma TVs, but also more voluminous TVs are quite relevant; models combined with a dressing table and designs with an electric fireplace, which can be equipped with shelves or niches, have a very light and elegant appearance.

Projector Mounts and Stands

Projectors are also suitable for lectures and at home. Thanks to them, you can watch TV or lecture slides in a large format on a canvas that you hang on the wall. However, it is important that each such projector is located far enough from the screen. In this case, the recommended distance will directly depend on the specific type of projector.

An equally important aspect is its correct location. Ideally, you have a projector suspended from the ceiling. For these purposes, it is necessary to purchase special holders for projectors. There are not only ceiling-mounted, but also wall-mounted options that are attached with self-tapping screws.

An alternative is projector stands. Thanks to them, the projector can be easily manipulated. For example, after speaking at a lecture, it can easily be moved from the hall to the office. Such stands are often used in schools.

TV stand shapes

There are long designs that are perfect for placing large-diagonal TV devices, as well as acoustics with speakers and a player. Most often, these models are used in more spacious rooms, where they can differ in both stationary and hanging locations. Such elongated cabinets are also equipped with various drawers and shelves, complemented with furniture in the form of side cases, shelving, hanging cabinets or slides.

There are also corner products, which are a very practical option that provides the opportunity to effectively save space, both in large and small rooms. Such models most often have shelves and sections, which makes them quite spacious. The TV stand can have any very intricate configuration, for example, triangular, polygonal, oval, semicircular or any other shape that allows you to achieve a designer interior.

High-tech design

The devil, as usual, is in the details, let's go through them.

Furniture and layout

Briefly:

  1. Only right angles. There are fans of high-tech with radii, but this is an unjustified risk, and it almost always turns out disgusting.
  2. Layouts with an island or breakfast bar. + Finding a good regular table and especially chairs for it is more difficult than finding bar chairs for an island or counter.
  3. In a small kitchen this is also possible, then lean towards corner layouts and even U-shaped ones - you need a lot of closed storage spaces, otherwise you won’t get them.
  4. If you use the kitchen little and do not store supplies, you can make at least 1 wall without upper cabinets. Either that or to the ceiling.
  5. The set can be made without gaps with the wall and ceiling and without planks. If furniture makers say otherwise, look for others. Naturally, measurements for this are made based on the final finish if it is thick (tiles or decorative plaster).

Color

I always say that white and gray kitchens are the best option and high-tech style is no exception.

You can make it cool in dark colors, but it's much more difficult.

  1. White is good in both glossy and matte versions. Dark colors only in matte.

Pure black is dangerous because... the result is unpredictable. If you want to add something dark, use dark gray (graphite) in a matte finish.

An unusual tree works well. Brushed solid wood (with revealed texture), glossy wood, unusual species like walnut. Standard options such as oak-imitation chipboard are good for the Scandinavian style, but not for high-tech. Read about a white kitchen with a wooden countertop - I analyzed all the nuances of interiors with wood there.

You can avoid using accent colors at all and get by with shades of gray. A bunch of photos from this article prove that it won’t be boring. If you do, it’s better to underdo it than to overdo it.

White refrigerators and microwaves are only in glass; enameled options will not suit the design. Or stainless steel.

Light

Light is beautiful not by its source, but by the manifestation of the textures of the illuminated surfaces.

The best choice for a high-tech kitchen is hidden lighting. Fortunately, the choice and quality of LED strips are now at the level.

2 errors:

  1. Backsplash lighting is underestimated and left to the kitchen technicians. As a result, the power button is located on the headset. And this is the most important part of kitchen lighting. We make the wiring and output it to the switch at the input like the rest of the light.
  2. The bottom of the kitchen is illuminated. It looks normal in the photo, but in reality it is a guard. The floor near the headset is almost always a little dirty and there is no point in focusing on it. Never illuminate the floor.

It is ideal to highlight a non-uniform surface such as concrete or imitation. Then the texture appears with shadows and it looks gorgeous.

Designer lamps in high-tech style have the right to life, although they are not required. But don't overdo them.

Curtains

Many people are perplexed by the question of choosing curtains for a high-tech kitchen. And for good reason, there is a nuance to this: straight blackout curtains are still good, but only in shades of gray.

For other modern styles, dark blues, for example, often work well, but this is always a risk.

Read about curtains for the kitchen (lots about short options) and about curtains for the kitchen with a balcony (more about long ones).

Decor

A high-tech kitchen does not need separate decoration. Neatness, order and lighting are the basis of design. If you managed to implement everything built-in and hide all the jars and other kitchen utensils, most likely the design is already cool and additional decoration is not necessary.

From the non-obvious that could be an accent:

  1. Window block. There are unusual, beautiful batteries that, coupled with a dark-colored double-glazed window with normal fittings and a non-plastic window sill, will make it so beautiful that you won’t even want to hide it behind curtains.
  2. Skirting boards. Aluminum, painted MDF or their absence at all (if parquet and tiles) immediately take the renovation to another level. About the choice of flooring for the kitchen and joints.
  3. Table, chairs, faucets - there are very futuristic design samples.

Naturally, all this costs money, but I warned you.

I hope I didn't intimidate you too much. As a last resort, take individual elements - in a real apartment it is not necessary to strictly adhere to one style.

Read my material about the design of a small kitchen - there, using similar modern examples, 7 rules and 4 common mistakes are analyzed, but taking into account a limited budget.

Good luck with the renovation!

Material

Main types of materials used for manufacturing:

  • Glass. It can have a transparent, matte or tinted design in the form of tempered glass that meets safety requirements.
  • Made of wood. Designs made from natural solid wood have a solid and solid appearance and offer both a minimalist and laconic design, as well as a more luxurious design with hand-carved wood.
  • Plasterboard structures. Due to the flexibility of the gypsum board, it is possible to design a cabinet of any shape and turn it into a beautiful and exclusive interior element.
  • Chipboard/chipboard. They are considered quite practical, durable, environmentally friendly and have low cost and are the most popular materials for the manufacture of cabinet furniture.
  • Metal. Stylish, functional and durable metal construction can easily withstand various loads and mechanical impacts, and also advantageously decorates the interior, giving it some uniqueness.
  • From stone. They are distinguished by their original texture, unique pattern and special texture that gives the environment a natural feel.

Each material has good performance characteristics, perfectly complements any interior space and, with proper care, has a long service life.

Modern modular wall, what are its features?

Unlike the walls of the past: massive, stationary, modular furniture has its own characteristics, it:

  • Convenient.
  • Roomy.
  • Modern.
  • Corresponds to fashion trends.
  • Gives you the opportunity to install elements to your liking.

Rational placement of shelves allows you to properly use the living room area. This is a versatile and functional option for small spaces.

What are the innovative approaches to its production? As stated above, these are not the bulky cabinets of yesteryear, but interchangeable cabinets. The kits can be supplemented and installed according to your wishes and needs.

Another difference. It’s easy to choose the number and size of sections yourself. What does it mean? Cabinets, cabinets, shelves can be of different sizes, required depth and capacity, have different textures and facade materials, which adds interesting variety.

Watch the video:

If you love wood finishing and consider it the best material, but do not want to live in a hut, combine a modular wall - wood with light walls, as we see - this is a very successful combination. It's never too late to update an old living room or, when creating a new one, to give it personality with the help of drawings and vinyl stickers like in this picture - in the form of poppies.

Colors

The color scheme of this design is selected to match the overall design of the room, for example, the classic solution is products in black, white or black and white, which form a rich picture and endow the decor with impeccable style. Brown TV stands or models in wenge shade look quite impressive, which has a pronounced structure, a slightly rough texture and clear veins, emphasizing the natural appearance and nobleness of the product.

Colored or two-color furniture is intended to create an individual, stylish design and add new colors and bright accents to the room. Expressive models in red tones will help give the room warmth, comfort, a certain liveliness and a certain mood; green designs will be an equally luxurious and surprisingly attractive solution.

With the help of yellow models, it is possible to significantly brighten the space and add sunlight to it, which is especially appropriate for small and dark rooms.

Design ideas

Illuminated designs are distinguished by an interesting design, undoubtedly attracting attention and creating an aesthetic design, or products with glass doors, which can be transparent, matte or have different designs and patterns. To highlight the beauty of your interior and add the perfect finishing touch, you can use a floating TV model that combines engineering, aesthetics and ergonomics.

In the photo, the TV stand is white, complemented by internal blue lighting.

Products with a glossy shiny surface will refresh the appearance of the room and give it additional light and air, while the matte finish, due to the softness effect, will create a very gentle and calm design.

Particularly sophisticated solutions are mirrored products, which add impeccable style and visual appeal to the environment, or models with patina, characterized by a special weathered effect. For a multifunctional design, they prefer stands for two TVs, which are equipped with wheels, shelves, and a hidden system for wires, which means they can be placed even in the center of the room.

Posting rules

Despite the fact that modern TV monitors are much safer than their predecessors, placement rules must be followed when installing equipment. It is worth paying attention to the following nuances:

  • place the cabinet so that a person can see the entire screen without difficulty;
  • The TV must be installed at a height of at least 70 cm from the floor;
  • It is not recommended to install cabinets near radiators and other heat sources;
  • it is necessary to select the size of the surface of the cabinet so that there is a technical gap behind the TV;
  • Place the product so that the sockets for the equipment are located behind the furniture.

Simple recommendations will help you choose an excellent product for your TV that will harmoniously fit into the interior and will delight you with its durability.

Photo of cabinets in the interior of rooms

Examples of design in the design of various rooms.

In the living room

A cabinet for the living room is selected taking into account the dimensions and style of the room. Any wall-mounted or floor-standing models would be appropriate here; an excellent solution would be designs with a bracket, which, due to a tilt-and-turn mechanism, allows you to rotate the LCD screen, changing the viewing angle, and thanks to a special cable channel, hide all the wires.

In the bedroom

In the bedroom interior, you often find a compact chest of drawers, a rotating transforming cabinet, or wall-mounted narrow products for TV and equipment that look very light and weightless. In order to give the room even more airiness, they use designs with open sections or glass doors, characterized by a wide variety of coatings.

To the children's room

For this room, they prefer products in bright colors, made from practical materials. The main thing is that the structures do not have sharp corners or breakable parts.

Types of tables

All types of tables can be divided according to location.

Corner

Corner furniture has always allowed us to save space, since the space in the corner of the room is difficult to occupy with something. Usually, in addition to the place for the TV, which is most often located in the center, there are also shelves for speakers and books.

"Slide"

Such furniture does not have a large number of long shelves, as can be seen in furniture made in the USSR. These products look compact and are designed for TV only. Thanks to this type of furniture, the room will not seem cluttered. This wall is an excellent option for a small apartment.

Wall-bedside table

This type of furniture is usually chosen by minimalists. The TV can be placed on this cabinet or hung in the center. This interior is often chosen for rooms where young people live.

Closet

As a rule, this word is associated with some kind of bulky wardrobe for storing clothes, in which there are many more not very necessary shelves. However, it should be noted that currently TV walls look quite compact.

Modern furniture designers note that the need for a cabinet is increasing every day.

How do TV stands look in different styles?

Photo examples of application in different stylistic solutions.

Modern style

It suggests laconic, straightforward TV stands, characterized by maximum functionality and the absence of unnecessary decorative elements.

The photo shows the interior of a modern kitchen-living room with a TV stand, made in a beige shade.

Thanks to a variety of interesting designs and a large number of configurations, it is possible to choose the most suitable option and realize the most daring ideas. In this style, it is appropriate to use both light and more massive structures.

Classical

Elegant, refined and aristocratic classic interior, characterized by furniture made of natural wood, the facade of which is decorated with beautiful carvings, forged parts, moldings or baguettes. Such products have a more massive, but at the same time quite graceful appearance.

Loft

For an industrial loft, choose a rough metal floor model for a TV or a structure made of wood combined with metal, which looks like an aged chest. In addition, any extraordinary solutions can be easily applied here, for example, a cabinet can be replaced with a wooden box or mobile pallets on wheels.

Scandinavian

Simplified products with rectangular outlines, mainly in white, gray or other pastel colors, will perfectly complement the Scandi interior. Quite often in this style you can find hanging or floor-standing retro TV stands made of chipboard, natural wood or plastic.

High tech

High-tech design involves the presence of geometric shapes and materials in the form of plastic, metal or glass. Basically, narrow bedside tables are appropriate here, in a cold and restrained white, gray or silver color scheme, complemented with chrome parts and other unique elements.

Provence

In the Provence style, vintage products made of natural wood or chipboard are used, which may have minor carved elements or slight wear to give an aged look.

Minimalism

Low, narrow TV stands with a black, white or gray color scheme are suitable here.

Neoclassical

This style direction, characterized by a combination of elegance, splendor and innovative ideas, is perfectly complemented by high-quality wood construction, decorated with various glass, mirror inserts or carved figured patterns.

Art Deco

The luxurious Art Deco atmosphere is complemented by spectacular and original products made from exotic woods, with inlays, golden elements or elegant glass inserts.

Country

In country style, simple, functional and natural furniture is appropriate, having simple and straight lines or complemented by an electric fireplace. Here they choose designs that are distinguished by rougher processing, without polishing or varnish, and attractive products with an aging effect, which is obtained by brushing.

Purchase of stands and holders

There are quite a few benefits to purchasing these products online. The fact is that in classic stores you can often find only two or three ordinary types of stands, which are more like a case for collecting scrap metal.

  • There is no need to talk about design or beautiful shape in this case.
  • Modern manufacturing companies offer a wide selection of TV stands for lectures, conferences and home use.
  • The product range also includes the aforementioned tablet stands as well as hanging or ceiling mounts for projectors.

For all products, data on load capacity, construction material and other properties are provided. Including whether they are static, rotating or moving.

Original ideas in the interior

Thanks to the right decor, you can significantly transform the decor and appearance of your TV stand. For example, in the design of structures they often use ivory inlay, colored mosaics, natural veneer, or use the technique of decoupage and burning of various patterns.

In addition, products made from thick timber that have retained the growth rings of old wood on the surface or structures made from pallets or brick blocks have a rather original look.

Tablet stands

Today, tablets are increasingly used instead of conventional monitors and televisions. Even in this case, you can buy special light stands.

Some types can even be permanently attached to the floor. This is again an ideal tool for small conference rooms and classrooms, for example.

What to put on the cabinet?

Free space on the nightstand can be filled with CDs, magazines, small figurines, candles, photo frames, paintings or small sculptures. An exquisite background can be created by decorative or living plants, flowers in vases or other decor that attracts the eye with its interestingness.
