The interior of a children's room has always had different individual approaches.
Basic rules for arranging a children's room with an area of 11 square meters
A children's room of 11 sq. m can turn out to be multifunctional and cozy if you follow the recommendations:
- Use of transformable furniture. This is especially true if the room is intended for two children. This will significantly save space.
- Before implementing the chosen design, you should think it through completely to the smallest detail. This is especially true for functional segments.
- You can choose a laconic interior, complementing it with decorative elements. Then such details can be changed over time, but the design will remain the same.
- A room for children should not be gloomy. Therefore, you should avoid a large number of dark tones. It is important to properly organize good lighting and complement the space with mirrors for a visual effect of spaciousness.
- You need to take care of storing things in advance. Therefore, various shelves and drawers are introduced into the room.
What to focus on
In a small bedroom, it is necessary to focus on functionality. However, it is necessary to understand that the bedroom of a boy and a girl can differ radically. The design of a nursery should take into account the child’s character, his preferences, inclinations, and desires. Only in this case will it be possible to create a truly suitable design.
In an effort to create maximum functionality, we must not forget about comfort and free space.
For this purpose, it may be worth taking a closer look at transformable furniture; it will help save a significant amount of free space, while maintaining the number of functional, potentially in-demand elements.
Style directions for children's rooms
The design of a children's room of 11 sq m should please not only parents, but also the child himself. The only exceptions are newborns who have not yet developed specific interests. You should familiarize yourself with the most popular and successful interiors for children's rooms.
The main objective of all arrangement options is maximum functionality of the space.
Art Nouveau style
For a child’s room, it is permissible not to adhere to the exact rules of implementing modernity, using a lighter version.
Additional Information! The choice of color can be traditional. Blue tones are suitable for a boy, and pink tones for a girl. Modernity can be achieved by introducing certain details.
It is important that the nursery has all functional areas that are responsible for their purpose.
The main color scheme should be neutral. You can use bright colors only for accents. Additionally, curved arches and stained glass paintings on the walls are used. Any floor covering is suitable, most importantly, plain or imitating wood. One of the accents can be the ceiling. Asymmetrical patterns, waves, and stained glass are allowed.
The children's room is designed for different ages, from birth to 10 years.
The room should also reflect the following modern features:
- Asymmetry in everything.
- Smooth lines, no sharp corners.
- The presence of natural motives.
- Use of natural materials.
- Active use of stained glass.
Arches and niches are suitable for zoning space.
Modern
This style is practical. It is divided into minimalism, loft and hi-tech. Brightness combines with tranquility. If the cladding is made in calm colors, then it is better to choose furniture in rich shades to add colors and accents. A similar recommendation works the other way around. Modern style is spacious. A minimum of furniture should be used, mostly multifunctional and compact.
For a small child’s room, choose calm, light shades.
And others
You can also implement the following styles in the nursery:
- Boho. Furniture items used are rounded. Lots of textiles, bright colors.
- This is the style. Mainly brown colors, natural materials and textiles. Furniture is better made of wood. The decor should also be made from natural raw materials; you can make it yourself.
- Japanese. It is enough to add Japanese symbols and landscapes and hang a large fan on the wall. Finally, hang bamboo curtains.
- Provence. This interior is characterized by the presence of floral motifs and pastel colors. French motifs can be reflected not only in the cladding, but also in textiles on furniture and decorative elements.
- Scandinavian. Light colors, natural materials. You can place a large fluffy carpet, which will become one of the accents in the room.
Bright bedroom of a one and a half year old girl
This light and bright nursery belongs to one and a half year old River (1.5 years old, the Netherlands). Its area is 11 square meters. meters, which by the standards of the Dutch town of Leiden is very good.
The girl’s mother, Marika, wanted to decorate the interior in an eclectic and colorful way, mixing her favorite Dutch and Scandinavian styles, as well as ancient and modern. At the same time, she did not adhere to any rules, but decided to simply trust her taste and see what came of it. Most of the furniture in River's room was purchased from thrift stores and flea markets and then hand-painted and refinished. For example, the girl’s grandfather painted an old-fashioned dark brown crib white. By the way, a toy bed for a doll (pictured) was also found at a flea market.
The old chest of drawers and changing table has also undergone changes and, in white, fits perfectly into the interior.
The only new items here are the Ektorp chair from Ikea (pictured) and the wardrobe.
Almost all the decorative items in River's bedroom are special. Marika made some things with her own hands, bought some things at a flea market and repurposed them, and some items, for example, small klomps (Dutch shoes) on the door, are simply dear to the family as memories. You can see the decor in detail in the following photo slider.
Ideas to note:
- This 11-meter children's room does not seem cramped or cluttered thanks to white walls, floors and furniture.
- And the light decoration balanced out the bright accents - pink curtains, yellow floral wallpaper on one of the walls and yellow-pink decor. If you also want to fill the nursery with bright colors, but are afraid to overload the space, use a proven scheme: white + one or two bright colors.
Advice from Marika:
“Start planning your design project with something you really like: it could be a fabric, a color or a print. For example, we started with wallpaper. I also advise you not to rush - the interior should not turn out perfect right away. Let the room grow with your child."
Choosing colors for the nursery
Choosing a color for a nursery is an important stage of renovation. An abundance of bright colors can have a negative impact on the child. The room is a place where the baby will spend a lot of time. There he will have to sleep, play, do his homework. Too bright colors will not allow the child to fall asleep comfortably or calm down quickly. Therefore, it is important to think through the palette of the room in advance, correctly balancing neutral and colorful colors.
The most suitable palette is beige, light yellow or soft blue.
The choice will be influenced by the child’s gender, age, individual characteristics and interests. You should definitely take into account the baby’s opinion about every detail in his room. It is also worth considering the following features:
- Location of the room.
- Level of natural light.
- Size of space.
- Planned organization of space, functional areas.
In 11 sq. m. you need to arrange two separate areas - for work and rest.
The factors listed above will influence the final choice of colors. So, in a dark room it is recommended to use a light palette. It is also suitable for a small room. Light colors visually expand the area and add light.
Today there are modular compact furniture attributes.
For girls, traditionally the main shades are pink, beige, and lilac. Blue and green colors are suitable for boys.
Rules for zoning small premises
Rooms of 11 square meters for two children are usually zoned so that each child has his own corner. You can also divide the room into segments for one child, if you need not only a sleeping place, but also an area for games, study, relaxation, etc.
You need to approach the interior design of an 11 square meter children's room for a teenager carefully, without missing out on the most important details.
Among the main methods of dividing into zones it is worth highlighting:
- With the help of furniture. They use a closet, partitions and screens, shelves and racks.
- Using decor. You can divide it into segments with carpets, lighting, and various decorative items.
- Using surfaces of different levels on the ceiling, floor. Different cladding and colors are also used for each zone.
When choosing furniture, pay attention to the closet; it should be as spacious and functional as possible.
Before the final choice of zoning method, it is worth deciding which segments need to be created in the room. It is also worth considering the age of the child. For older children, you can limit yourself to the interior, highlighting a separate area using decor and design. For small children, it is better to use partitions and furniture to designate segments.
If your children are no longer small, take care of arranging proper places for recreation.
Additional Information! The multi-level ceiling performs more decorative functions than zoning specifically in the nursery. The child simply does not notice the line separating several zones. For a nursery, it is better to choose a different floor level, which is more noticeable to the child.
Install a large bed right away and save your budget.
When zoning a boy’s room, you can use the following techniques:
- A soft carpet, gym mat or play pool will create an area where you can play and jump.
- A desk will help designate the work area where the boy will do his homework.
- Covering the walls with photo wallpapers and drawings allows you to indicate the play area in the room.
- Partitions. It is better to choose models with additional holes for storing things, books, and toys. Then this will allow not only to separate zones, but also to conveniently store things.
These techniques can also be implemented in a girl’s room. In addition, the following methods are suitable:
- Decorations made of textiles, such as curtains, fabric partitions. This will add coziness and privacy to the corner.
- Toys as zone designators. For example, a doll's house can become the point at which the play area of the room begins.
Don’t forget about lighting: high-quality lighting devices can protect the health of your child.
You can also use a dressing table, shelves with books, etc. to designate zones.
If two children live in the room, each should have their own individual place and personal pieces of furniture, for example, each has their own desk.
Place study furniture near the window opening, and place the hanging area in the center of the room.
From 7 to 12-13 years old
At this age, the child begins to study and needs a comfortable workplace. Now children can take an active part in arranging the interior of the room, thinking through the style, selecting decor and accessories.
Furniture for children's room 11 sq m
Conventionally, in most cases, in a nursery there are several main zones:
- Sleeping area.
- Workspace.
- Area for games and relaxation.
- Storage space.
Based on this, the most suitable furniture is selected. It also takes into account how many children live in the room, their age and individual characteristics.
Often, teenagers like thematic design or the trend of minimalism.
For a newborn, a minimal set of furniture is suitable, including a bed, a changing table and a closet with things. When the child gets a little older, you can place a transforming bed. Its advantage is that a baby can sleep on it up to 7 years old.
As the child constantly grows up, his room will be filled with new objects. More storage space will be required. An excellent option are multifunctional models, for example, beds with niches for storing things, equipped with drawers at the bottom. This will allow you to make good use of all the space without cluttering the room with many cabinets and bedside tables.
Avoid dark shades; advise your child to choose fashionable tones in different interesting combinations.
If several children live in the room, it is worth considering a bunk bed, which will comfortably accommodate all the inhabitants of the room and will not take up extra space. The baby will also begin to develop his own interests. Therefore, you will need space for toys, educational items, and other things.
Furniture should not only be functional, beautiful and practical, but also comfortable and safe, especially for small children. Sharp corners, chairs, and armchairs that create incorrect posture should be avoided.
Consider the options with your child, if his age allows, and choose the best one that is similar to his character.
Photos of children's interior design 11 sq m
It is better to understand how to properly organize a children’s space on an area of 11 square meters if you study the examples of interiors in the photo. This way you can be inspired by your own ideas, take into account important features and implement the option that you like best.
It is recommended to choose furniture of a modular type, or you should prefer compact options.
The design of a nursery must be approached seriously and responsibly. Don't forget to take into account the child's opinion. It is better to develop the interior together, combining the wishes of children with practicality, functionality and convenience. It is worth remembering about safety, maximizing its level in the nursery.
The best option here would be to trust your son/daughter so that he/she can independently think through the interior design of their own bedroom.
Room for two boys
Now let's take a look at the beautiful bedroom interior of two boys from Australia - Johnny (3 years old) and Freddie (6 years old). Their mother Kristan, by the way, a designer by profession, decided that children needed personal “territories” in a common space. In this 11-meter nursery (3x3.7 m), the beds and the walls above them became such “territories”. Kristan describes their decor as “a collection of favorites, flea market finds and memorabilia.” To prevent the decor from looking chaotic, it was decided to paint the walls in a calm, neutral shade, and finish the floor with sisal.
My parents bought yellow metal beds for growing up, so their sizes are standard - 98 cm x 194 cm.
Boys' jackets and baseball caps are hung on the walls both to decorate the interior and to save closet space and convenience.
You can take a closer look at the decor of this children's room in the following photo slider.
Advice from Kristan:
“I think the most effective way to personalize a child's room is to simply take nails and hang things on the walls that children love. The result will be an interesting and pleasing gallery.”
